Space Combat Simulators on PS3?

I don't know, but it's a sad trend. Hell, there's not that many on the PC, which has always been the bastion for it. The only one I can think of in recent memory has been X3 and X3: Terran Conflict (which is basically X3 2.0).

That's a big bummer. A game like that would be amazing on the PS3.

Nothing on the PS3, but one was recently released on the 360, Darkstar One: Broken Alliance.

For some reason I'm not really aware of, it seems as if this kind of game stopped being popular not long after 2000...

Wing Commander and Privateer were big back in the day, I think; there were several Star Wars based games (not talking about stuff like "Rebel Assault" which was more in-rails). There were also lesser known games with some quality. I remember some more modern ones like Freelancer that got some success and then not much in terms of new stuff.

Independence War is really good although it is much less "arcade" than most other games in this genre.

I was really into this RPGish game on the PC. I can't remember what it was, but your ship was completely customizable and you did quests and traveled all around the system at your own leisure. That was around the early 2000s too, I think. I was hoping for one like that to play on my PS3.
