Lame they probably are just going to send a fat check to the hacker group so that more homebrew isn't released..JordanPlayer wrote:http://ps3.ign.com/articles/114/1143070p1.html

seems like a pretty stock response to this sort of thing

Of course they're going to say that. This is going to take some fixing. They're going to have to have a radical restructuring of their chain of trust from the ground up and even then they're still vulnerable at the very absolute bottom of the chain due to the metldr keys being public. So whatever 'fix' they come up with, can be overridden at boot level. The only way to fix this is by a completely new SKU, and it's STILL vulnerable to software/game based attacks like the Twilight Princess/Lumines/GTA:LCS ones..JordanPlayer wrote:http://ps3.ign.com/articles/114/1143070p1.html

Why the hell does IGN have to sensationalize it?JordanPlayer wrote:http://ps3.ign.com/articles/114/1143070p1.html

No IGN, the group in their talk was discussing running homebrew applications. The did mention that pirate use would be a side effect, but they weren't up on stage going "OMG FREE GAEMZ WOOOO!"The group says it has discovered private root keys that would allow pirated PS3 software to be authorized to run on the console.

I agree, I thought the same thing when reading it. They make it sound like pirated games is the only use for this, they don't even hint otherwise.

Who pays attention to IGN any more? The website is an absolute fucking joke. Their reviews are utter bollocks. Their news is barely 'news', hell I thought the whole point of 'news' was that it was 'new'. They just copy everything from other sites/blogs and basically just constantly shit on the little guys doing the actual work.
Let's just clarify one thing. The hack does not allow LV2 access. There are no hardware poke/peeks available for it. This is what makes loading from HDD0 and USB00xx possible. Even Geohot's current hack for 3.55 which allows unsigned homebrew pkgs to launch doesn't allow LV2 poke/peek so piracy is not possible with that hack. So to sum up, piracy is only possible on 3.41 currently. With the same jailbreak that was patched with 3.50. Typical sensationalist bullshit from IGN as always.
