Yeah, I see that. There's that locked door there connected to World 1-1 that isn't in the original game.ReddMcKnight wrote:I just remembered another thing from the 90s. The following image shows the back of Super Mario Bros. 3 box. If you look at the top screenshot on it, you can see that the 1st World Map is different than it is in the game itself.![]()

the 90s was great because there was such a huge transition in video games. Let me give you an example:
Here is 8 eyes, which came out in 1990:

And here is Soul Calibur , which came out in 1999:

Do you see any differences?

Aw come on now. The post 2000 years may have not been as vibrant as the 90s (debatable), but they certainly weren't Big Rigs bad.
Well, except for Big Rigs.

I think the best thing about the 80s, 90,s etc was the fact that every genre that came out it was like brand new and being there for that was fantastic.
I'll never forget some experiences in gaming I had.
Playing Super Mario Bros 1 at the community center for the first time.
The first time playing Street Fighter 2 in the Arcade.
The time I realised it was being released on the Snes.
Having a Snes and taking part in the 16bit wars
Jumping from 16bit technology to 32bit PS1 / Sega Saturn was just amazing playing true near Arcade perfect games at home.
Buying a Dreamcast in 1999 it delivered on all the promises I loved the Dreamcast.
Since the Dreamcast failed and Sega left the console game I got lost for a bit I think the PS2, Gamecube and Xbox era just passed me by and I started playing more Retrogames instead.
Most of my fond memories of lasted until the Dreamcast era and last game that everyone including myself truly got addicted to was Soul Calibur 2 most because we loved the original so much after that it kind of got Hazy I spent a stupidly long time trying to play Sega games across the three platforms.
Slightly side tracked but a personal gripe is that while Sega still release good games they are just not the same as when they had a console to play all the great Sega games in one place.
That's another good thing about the 90's Sega still made consoles.

I think sega actually made too many consoles in the 90s.
Re: Gaming in the 90s was awesome...
That is true but still it was great choices for the consumer not making good business decisions has nothing to do with me as a gamer.yomomma1 wrote:I think sega actually made too many consoles in the 90s.

It would have left to longer lifespans of the consoles they did release... which is more games.msimplay wrote:That is true but still it was great choices for the consumer not making good business decisions has nothing to do with me as a gamer.yomomma1 wrote:I think sega actually made too many consoles in the 90s.

I know that bit but that's their job to create a good platform.yomomma1 wrote:It would have left to longer lifespans of the consoles they did release... which is more games.msimplay wrote:That is true but still it was great choices for the consumer not making good business decisions has nothing to do with me as a gamer.yomomma1 wrote:I think sega actually made too many consoles in the 90s.
If you are talking about sales then it's down to the consumer to make a choice to buy something or not. No one can predict sales in the 90's the Megadrive was their most successful console granted they could have done without the 32x and Megacd but one thing I noticed was they kept on failing when they created their consoles in the ones ie the Sega Saturn and the Dreamcast.
I'm not trying to say more is better just pointing out the irony
Come to think of it even Nintendo had its fair share of consoles back then it was supporting 3 consoles in it's product catalog at once.
The Snes , Nes and Gameboy and each had it's own market share the Snes was the premium product and the Nes budget with the Gameboy covering the portable gaming share.
You could say there was only really two contenders in the gaming industry back then but that wasn't strictly true either.
Since there was a whole host of other types of gamers playing on their Amiga's, Ataris Sts and Commodore 64's that have some acclaimed games such as Monkey Island 2 and Maniac Mansion.
