Sonic the Hedgehog (US) for Sega Master System

Post by Stark »

Someone was telling me that this game for the US and the UK was the same cart and the only difference is that on the box for the US one there is a sticker that was unique to the US. Anyone know anything about this? I have a guy near me selling one on Craigslist and want to know how to spot a fake.

Thanks!

(I know my post count is low, bear with me as I put some time in! :) )

Apparently the answer is found on this very site:

'However, the US Sega Master System version of Sonic the Hedgehog was a very low quantity late-release, and today commands the highest price of any game on the system. Think paying $200 for an 8-bit downgrade is steep? Consider that the only difference between this version and the common, $2 PAL version, is a UPC sticker pasted on the packaging! Since the Master System was region-free, Sega simply shipped the PAL extras to the US. It even has the multi-language manual!'

Sorry for wasting everyone's time, move along nothing to see here... :P

If you're not picky about *specifically* getting the US version for some reason, I think you're pretty safe. I doubt there's a huge market for fake SMS games.

Yeah it was more of, if the guy was going to claim it was the US release, I was wondering how you could tell. Thanks for the reply!

That also means if the sticker is defaced, or merely a PAL cart put into the box instead somehow, it then becomes impossible to verify a copy as authentic US.
