trouble with saturn memory cartridge

Post by instant_classic »

i think its actualy a simple problem but whenever i start to write it down it sounds
more complicated than it actually is so im just going to write what exactly occured.
1st off im using :

us saturn with region switches (dead lithium battery),
official japanese sakura wars memory cart,
& japanese game deep fear

ok so i go to save the game and i got this screen:
Image
i assume the top line is the saturn's internal memory and the bottom lines are cartridge memory.
i tried saving on the bottom lines and got this message:
Image
not sure what it means because i dont know japanese.
so then i try to save on the top line and it worked, then i reset the saturn to check the internal memory
in the bios screen. it was there so i copied to cartridge.
i turned off the system, waited a while, turned it back on, checked the system and cartidge memory and both
were blank.
i started the game, saved on 1st line again, reset system, checked the internal memory and it was there so i go to
copy to cartridge again but now my 1st save magically appears along with an unknown save taking up 1 save of memory:
Image
so anyway i go delete the 2nd deep fear save i made but instead the unknown save disappears, i try to delete 2nd deep fear
save again, system says 'removed' but its still there. weird but i just transfered 1st deep fear save to systems internal
memory and start game again....and again same problem. i see no where to load a previosuly saved game and im stuck
with saves i cant delete.

help me!

Some games simply can't save to some memory carts even if the in-game controls seem to indicate you can. Additionally, some games can't restore saves directly from the cart. I have an Interact memory cart and all I can do with it is save game saves to it in the Saturn control panels and restore games to the Saturn memory from the cart. The games I have can ONLY use game saves which appear on the resident Saturn memory.

I'd suggest:

-install a new battery into the Saturn
-format your cart and wipe it clean
-do NOT save games directly to the cart from within a game itself

As a test, make a game save on the Saturn and shut it down. Power up and enter the Saturn control panel and copy the save to the cart. Delete the save from the Saturn and copy the save from the cart to the Saturn. Start the game and see if the game save works for you. If it works, great. If not, the cart or the cart connection is bad.
