Gaming in the 90s was awesome...

Hey all. Just a rant I thought I'd post for fun. I remember gaming back in the 90s was the best. Everything was so new. The game companies tearing at each others throats with they're commercials, the special promos, the "Genesis Does" advertising campaign, and so on. Damn, I miss those days. Anyone who was born in 1988, or a bit before that must remember all that. To be honest, there are times when I wish it was still the 90s. I would just love to experience it all again. These kids today (10 and under) have no idea what real gaming is if you ask me, but that's just my opinion. Anyway, what brought on this rant? Well, I was browsing a site I recently discovered called Retro Junk, and found the following commercial on it:

Seeing it really made me happy, knowing that someone is preserving this stuff. It wasn't until I found the next commercial that I went totally crazy with happiness...

But seriously, that brings me to my two points:

1. I loved the 90s, and I wish they could happen all over again.

2. I love this site, because everyone, in one sense or another, thinks like this.

Heh I remember that Smash Bros commercial. The 90s were pretty awesome, though I don't remember them that well and only played video games in 1999.

Hell, I remember the cheesy commercial back in '01 for Paper Mario. That's close enough in my opinion.

But if I could remember the 90's, I'd probably love it, but I was born in '95, so everything is a blur. I do have a ton of envy for those that did live during that time (and can remember it)

Personally i blame the effect i am now naming:

"Generic FPS with no new ideas but ideas stolen from other successful titles in the genre, if you play anything but this style of game you are a small child!"

Honestly people talk about Call of Duty in my local pub but bring up just about any game which isnt an exact clone and everyone just looks at you and goes, "Thats a kids game." Freaking advertising warping peoples minds...

Yeah 90s were awesome, although i can only remember really from '96 as i was born in '91. But because my parents and friends parents were all broke we were about 5 years behind in electronics .

There are a few good things I miss from the 90's:

-Companies produced full games to be enjoyed forever, not break them in half to be released as DLC in 2 weeks time, also not to release yearly sequels.

-Consoles were actually different, and technology advancement helped the actual games not produced novelty accessories and bigger hard-drive to store more movies. While I welcome the idea of making the console an entertainment hub, I don't see the advancement in technology helping the actual games. Its more about networking now.

-I miss the days when fewer games were released, it made you concentrate on the really good stuff. While great games still exist today, you get so confused and overwhelmed that you are not sure what to play or how long you should spend time on it.

-When you finished a game in the 90's, you always switched it back and played one more time. It had high replay value, I am not sure why. Not so much now days, maybe because there are too many games to spend a lot of time on one?

Just few things off the top of my mind.
One thing I am glad is gone, is difficulty

games in the 90's were so difficult I stopped playing because of it. Stuff like Earthworm Jim and Batman and Robin will make this very clear to you. Also I don't miss having to complete the game in one go without saves or passwords

Whoa~ I grew up in a beach/surf city in SoCal. Never in the 80s nor ever in the 90s did anyone dress that way there. It looks more like valley than beach.
