Games Finished 2011
  • Call of Duty: Black Ops - 360
    Sonic and Knuckles - XBLA
    K.O.L.M. - PC *new*
Total: 3

K.O.L.M. is a great little browser Metroidvania-style game. I usually shy away from browser games, but I'm glad I stuck with this one. It took me just about an hour to beat it, and that was only with about 75% of the items collected. In K.O.L.M., you play as a little robot who wakes up in a nearly disassembled state. Your "mother" talks to you through a dialogue window in the HUD, instructing you on where to find your missing parts, and how to use them. It isn't particularly deep, but it is fun, and that's what matters most! Give it a shot guys, its free! http://armorgames.com/play/7446/kolm

"The List" or "Games I intend on beating before the years end!"

Moero Nekketsu Rhytmn Daimassu Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan 2! again!

I think I might record some perfect runs and submit them to Twin Galaxies, I consistently hit two 100s on a couple of songs so I can get perfect combos with a little practice.

sega
castle of illusion

beat my first game of the year! and it kind of...sucked. doesn't this game get a lot of praise? but, maybe a lot of it has to do with nostalgia. i never played this as a young lad so i went into it fresh. i thought it was average: definitely not good, but definitely not bad. the hit detection can be a bit whacked at times. and it was pretty easy.
if you took a shit, please put it back

I enjoyed Castle of Illusion. It's not remarkable in anyway, but its a fun little blast. I especially enjoy the gravity flipping toyland level (and the one where you climb the hill and run back down it again aswell actually, that was fun).

I've played both the SMS and mega drive versions, and they were both fun. The master system probably is the better one in my opinion, but both are fun and different enough to count as seperate games easily.

How do you consider a fighting game beat? Also, how do consider a game like crazy taxi beat? S ranking?
I consider Crazy Taxi beaten when you've done all of the Crazy Box and have a Crazy Licence ($20k+) on both Arcade and Original (if you're not playing the arcade original of course!). Something I tend to do every year. I think I've done it 4 or 5 times now. It's not hard to do. I managed to 100% the 360 port in a couple of hours (check my xbox live profile for proof).

Serious Sam: The Second Encounter (PC)(FPS)
X-Men: Mutant Academy (PS1)(Fighting)

TOTAL: 2

Before anybody says "Hey, how do you beat a fighting game" again, I just want you to know that I beat arcade mode and the game's training mode, and then went through over 30 rounds in survival mode to unlock everything for Beast. I plan on completing the game, so I've got some more playing to do.

Anyway, X-Men: Mutant Academy is a competent and enjoyable PS1 fighting game. No, I don't consider it as good as the likes of X-Men: Children of the Atom, but it's a relatively simple game. It's a six-button fighter, similar to the Street Fighter series, but features a dedicated throw and counter button. So far, I haven't seen or been able to develop any long combos, but we'll see what happens over the course of the gameplay.

The most interesting aspect of the game is probably the super move meters. Every character has three, which correspond to three specific super moves. The first is a basic "input the command to execute," while the second for Beast required the input of the command followed by my tapping specified directions to cause extra damage. The third super move requires that the bar be filled, and then the player must tap X rapidly to enable the ability to perform it. If the player doesn't want to wait to fill one of his meters, there are commands in the game to switch how full each meter is on the fly, so you can drain one you don't plan on using to boost another you do want to use.

The biggest downside to the game is its load times. It takes a good while to load each new fight, and in survival mode you have to wait 10 seconds or so between each round. It also doesn't tell you how many rounds you fought until you finally lose.

So yeah, fun game, wonderful property, horrible load times. The game was pretty much designed to sell the movie too, so characters have access to their movie costumes and there are unlockable movie stills and the like.

1/1: Octodad PC
1/1: Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter (Co-op) PC
1/6: Something Amiss PC NEW
1/6: Sam & Max 104: Abe Lincoln Must Die! PC NEW

Total: 4

Something Amiss is a nice little point-and-click. Kinda frustrating sometimes, but they all are to me. The story was pretty decent (apparently it's based off a book) and had the length of a Sam & Max game.

So then I had to go play a Sam & Max game. This one is free on Steam if you don't have it yet. It also has one of the best mid-game cutscenes ever. :)

Plants Vs Zombies - PC

Total: 1

Thoughts on the Game(s)

Plants Vs Zombies, it was a pretty fun game with a lot of extra content for when you finish, however the main game is very easy, I finished the Adventure mode without dying once (and only once did they reach the back line). I played the game on the 360, the Iphone and the PC and I think the PC version is the best, simply because the mouse works best for the style of game.
