Nobody but Working Designs was bringing these kinds of games over from Japan. I'd say just be thankful we got them in English period. I thought overall they did a great job with the translations.

I just believe in leaving well enough alone. You don't mess with a Van Gogh painting or a Mona Lisa. To me, taking a game you supposedly love and messing with the gameplay or story is a sin and is also hypocritical. You don't try and change what you supposedly love(just ask anyone who has ever had a bad relationship lol)

ESPECIALLY when that game is by a company that does gameplay better than most companies on the planet(I'm talking about Treasure of course).

Sure, it's nice we got those games over here, but that doesn't let them off the hook for the changes they made. That's all I'm saying....

I sort of view Working Designs as a necessary evil. We're lucky to have gotten those games over here, but someone else might have done a better job of it. Unfortunately, WD was the only company willing to do it. So we got what we got(which included a shitty version of Silhouette Mirage)

Just for clarification, are we simply talking about Silhouette Mirage and Silpheed: The Lost Planet? How are the Japanese versions different - what makes them better?

Or are we talking about things I don't remember?

Some of the stuff they added in Magic Knight Rayearth was pretty cool. Added a certain flavor.

I guess you could look at it like Chrono Trigger on the DS. They removed Frog's english accent. Wasn't it better having him speak in awesome english, even if in the Super Famicom version he didn't?

I don't know about the changes to Silpheed, but in Silhouette Mirage, they made all of your weapons drain your spirit power as you use them. They're not supposed to do that, originally. It changes the gameplay completely, and not for the better.

I suppose I will pick up the Japanese version when I get around to buying that game. Thanks for the heads up!

Still, if Treasure disapproved I wonder why they let them do The Lost Planet...

I have no idea whether Treasure knew or cared about the changes. I don't like the changes. I bought the WD localization after having played an import of the Saturn version. I thought I was getting a game I would enjoy. I believed that's what I was paying for. Instead, I received a game that I can't find worth playing. :(

I'm still totally happy with my Rayearth purchase though.

Maybe I should try to get Victor Ireland on the horn to do an upcoming podcast...
