Re: What are your favorite video game worlds?
My favorite would be the Great Sea from Wind Waker. The wide open-ness of it made it actually feel like a large world, as opposed to Ocarina of Time, which was rather tiny. The submarines, watchtowers, the ghost ship, sharks that chase me from Tingle's Island to the Forsaken Fortress and back, all of those minor details add to the experience and depth. The islands themselves are a bit tiny sometimes, but the game in the end justifies this.

A lot of people dislike this game but I believe this is the best console Zelda game I have ever played. So many subtle touches that are present here that even TP has missing, its just a great game. You should play Wind Wakers squeals, Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks.AmishSamurai wrote:My favorite would be the Great Sea from Wind Waker. I don't intend to repeat myself too much and you guys have mentioned several classics, but i have to put another vote to Final Fantasy VII. I admit I have a totally biased love for this game... It was the first FF I played and what made me fall in love with RPG style games. I love the characters in it, I love the story, I love how I felt as a kid playing that game.
So yeah, not the most objective argument, but still, it's one of my favourite game worlds.
I have to add Metal Gear too. It doesn't have the stunning graphic features of others you have mentioned, but the interpretation and fantastic projection of modern world politics and philosophy that you see in this game is, i think, brilliant. A very original world full of compelling characters, perfect mix of fantasy and realism. I love it. Plus Snake is flat out cool.

I really liked FFXII's world, even though their wasn't an overworld everything felt nice and spacious. Of course the former economics major in me couldn't help but wondering what in the hell was Dalmasca's economy? Their just surrounded by desert and swamps and not located by any ports, basically with no resources to speak of...Good God I think too much

Like most Arabian desert countries, oil? I actually recall a very long section where you are running on top of some things that look like oil extraction platforms.Croooow! wrote:I really liked FFXII's world, even though their wasn't an overworld everything felt nice and spacious.
