Can I use this custom firmware to run emulators on the PS3? Also is a PS2 emulator on its way? I want to get rid of my PS2

Not yet. The devs have yet to officially compile their emulators into retail pkgs. I'm currently experimenting with compiling their source for execution from retail pkgs.

Theoretically, you can do anything with it. You just need to wait for the homebrew to be compiled to the new standard.

I'm annoyed by people trying to sell their "rare" used 60Gb PS3 models for more than a new PS3 slim. It would be nice to start a Sony collection and not have to buy a PS2.

That is a hope of many of ours. The original PS3s had hardware ps2 backwards compatibility (they literally had a ps2 inside of them). The later ones, with 4 usb ports, had software support. Simply put, an emulator.

Curious, why not buy or keep a PS2 Fat? HDAvance/HDLoader convenience makes it worth keeping the older console around.

It'd be less shelf space for one thing. I'm sure not many people have room to keep multiple consoles hooked up. (I know I don't.)

Same. And I would rather have the ps3 controllers than the logitech ones

This is pretty cool... I think I'm going to buy off a fat PS3 second hand so I can mainly run emulators on it.. Have one legit PS3 and one modded.. The main thing I'm worried about is online hackers more than anything.. Having to deal with wallhacks, aimbots etc..

Too bad you can't stack the PS2 on top of the PS3. The PS2 makes a nice PS1 shelf.

Best part about the PS2. Vertically it's slim and can fit anywhere. Horizontally, it's one of the few consoles that's stackable. The PS3 is front loading, why the hell didn't they make it stackable?

While we're talking about PS3's I have a question.

While I won't be able to get one for a while I'll probably end up getting a slim ps3. Is the slim ps3 able to play dvd movies (not hard/soft-modded)? And if not would a custom firmware or other type of update allow movies to be played on it?

If people will be able to create the ability of playing ps2 titles on a slim I'm assuming that you'd be able to watch films as well. This would be a major plus for me because my ps2 is my dvd player and used for playing ps1/ps2 titles. I'd really like to play some ps3 titles and have backwards compatibility so I can just have one system plugged up.

Maybe because they were not built for stacking. Future consoles should be built like Legos.
