Unbreakable- a sequel to this would have been great but since that never will happen, this is a great origin story with a weak ending.

Were you watching it on AMC this morning?OldSchool_Boy wrote:Unbreakable- a sequel to this would have been great but since that never will happen, this is a great origin story with a weak ending.
I agree as well, it could have been so great, but in the end it just kept building and building for nothing.

Machete. Loved it.
Some more of Vicious Lips. Love what I've seen so far.
Still gotta finish Purana Mandir, which is good so far.

The Last Exorcism: I really liked this movie while I was watching it. Having sat around for a while I feel like I feel more and more eh about it. Nothing really scary or disturbing or even thrilling. A lot of setup with about three scenes of action (not action action, just something happening). During those scenes there are some creepy parts that I really liked. As for the ending, not sure how I feel about it. I wish I could discuss it more, but I don't want to ruin it for anyone.

I sort of like the ending (it is a bit cheesy) because it seems to go against the recent trend of movies being real - as in something that could actually (even if completely improbable) happen to you (Hostel, Saw) or in something supernatural turning out to have a completely logical explanation. This film follows the latter to a T (for some) and even seems to end with everything having been accounted for logically (most seem to wish it ended here). Then, it turns out the supernatural explanation was right all along. It's funny, for me this was a bit of a twist. The "turning out their was a logical explanation" twist has become predictable for me, which is the opposite of how things used to be, so the ending of Last Exorcism was a tad refreshing... a tad. All in all, nothing to impressive here (the lead actress is pretty good though it feels like she is a 29 year old playing a 16 year old). The lead actor was a bit of an arrogant prick, which he was supposed to be (basically playing on peoples' emotions/beliefs to satisfy his own selfishness). I really liked the performance by Caleb for some reason, and the Dad was convincing as a religious nut.

Sunshine. This was a second viewing and the film didn't hold up for me. The wonderful score complements the neat visuals but it's no scratch on earlier space thrillers.

8½. An incoherent mess? A brilliant allegory? A narcissistic, over-inflated ego trip? A grand classic? I honestly have no idea

The Other Guys. Will Ferrell is not funny when he's the lead. In Old School he was pretty okay but anything that he stars in just is awful. I hate that the previews make the movies look good.

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
The Fighter- I went into this movie knowing it was about boxing. But I would venture to say it is far from a movie about boxing, but a movie about a man who just ends up in terrible situations, and his struggle through familial and romantic relationships. Christian Bale delivers again as a crack addicted ex-boxer, who trains his younger brother, played by Marky Mark. Mark Wahlberg
s character is an up and coming boxer who is being trained and managed by his family, who keeps putting him in fights he can't win- he takes his career into his own hands, falls in love- and I will leave my plot summary there. But the movie has excellent acting by all its members, and I highly recommend the movie. (you see amy adams boobs too if anyone cares)

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Last night was True Grit, The Warriors, and Death Wish 3.
True Grit was great. I really liked Jeff Bridges as Rooster and the subtle Coen brothers comedy undertones. When the plan goes wrong and he just says that it went wrong, I just started cracking up. The part with the cornbread and whiskey bottle is my favorite part though.
The Warriors I was less enthused about. Ive been told by years how great it was, which only makes me dig into it deeper to expose flaws. But it was a fun ganger romp. Not the best ganger movie, but certainly not the worst. I do think that when they got of the subway where the baseball people were, it should have just been that one guy in makeup shown the rest hiding and no makeup. It would have been FAR more creepier that way.
Deathwish 3 = Bronson = badass

The best part of this movie is the glances from neighbors while they walk their dogs. They don't approve of Marky Mark, but you can't on the neighbors for hating his Mom and Sister who are the only two people you really want to see get punched in the movie.Snickerd00dle wrote:The Fighter
The film is amazing, and I don't want to take anything away from it, but it is the most "meta funny (?)" movie I've laid eyes on. I think one person uses one contraction in one sentence in the entire movie. Like I said, it is a beautiful piece of work, but if you watch it as purely a comedy it takes a different twist.fastbilly1 wrote:Last night was True Grit <snip>
