Be careful; according to Sony, 3rd party controllers are certain to blow up in your face.Beak wrote:I'm in the market for another PS3 controller. Figured I ask you guys before I bought anything; do you have any suggestions/warnings about controllers (3rd party or not)?
I know it's a gamble getting 3rd party sometimes, so I wanted to ask before I did anything.
Thanks!

Re: Thoughts on PS3 Controllers
Some third party controllers are really nice. For the ps3 you can get a wired afterglow controller on ebay for 20$ shipped. They are LED modded and some are filled with water. They come in three colors red, green and blue. I love to console mod so when it comes to soldering a controller for portablization I go for the third party ones.

I've been critical with the Dual Shock 3 changes from DS 2.. I always thought they should have kept the same controller and shouldn't have added the triggers..

Thanks for the info guys.
Guess I'll be getting a Sony one (which I was going to default to anyway unless someone really recommended something else). They're just damn expensive! We're past generation controllers so expensive? I don't remember it being near 60 bucks, but maybe I'm mistaken.

They weren't. I think the Playstation 2 Dual Shock 2 launched at around $35. You can pick one up for $15 - $20 NIB now. The increase in cost no doubt comes from the inclusion of wireless by default. Arguably the best wireless controller for the PS2 was made by Logitech and ran around $40 - $50 when first released. Quality wireless controllers never have been cheap.Beak wrote:We're past generation controllers so expensive? I don't remember it being near 60 bucks, but maybe I'm mistaken.

I happen to own this and really like it: http://www.gamestop.com/Catalog/Product ... t_id=78697
It has everything that that I didn't like about the Dualshock 3 (ugh, hate Sony controllers): it has a better grip in your hands imo, buttons are elevated, L1 and R1 are slightly slanted to accommodate fingers, triggers are curved, and analog is concave. The d-pad wasn't all that great (not to say DS3 d-pad was any better), and it isn't bluetooth.
