Guardian Heroes Question!

Hello fellow racketboy members and a happy belated new years to all

Like many of us here I loooove my saturn and would like to be able to play all the great games in my saturn at least once. I am sad to say that I have never played Guardian Heroes, as many of you know it is amazing and a big thanks to racketboy for the awsome review of the game. So, my question is would I miss out on much or have any trouble if I got me a japanese copy of the game I can't seem to justify spending $100+ on the US version where I can get the japanese for under $45

welcome aboard Spike. I personally use HG101 as a bit of a bible when it comes to understanding the various ports of many series. Here's what they had to say about yr very dilemma:

Like most of Treasure's Saturn games, Guardian Heroes has never been ported anywhere else, which is naturally quite unfortunate. The American and European versions command sizable prices on the secondary market, but the Japanese version is a bit cheaper and easier to find. Although you may need a FAQ to read the stats at the level up screen or need the script to understand which branch you're taking, it's still perfectly playable in Japanese, and is a good alternative to budget conscious Treasure fans. The only other real difference is that the voices and sound effects in the intro movie were removed for the English version, leaving only music.

FYI, the GBA game is actually more of a sequel than anything else. But if you can get yr hands on the Japanese Saturn version then you should have two great games to play.

I was able to bid snipe and get a mint CIB copy of the US release for $71. That is actually considered a bargain.

If you are willing to get the game without box or manual, you may be able to get it for as little as $45.

Welcome Spike, the Saturn is indeed awesome. Hope you enjoy Guardian Heroes once you pick it up.

Regarding the game, it's also worth pointing out that, despite being a fighter, there is a story in the game, and there's quite a bit of dialogue in some points in the game. In addition, it will give you options of what to do (or where to go) next. This won't be too much of a problem in Japanese as long as you don't care too much about the story.

I've got to be honest, I have an English version of the game, and I couldn't care less about the story (although the different options add great replay value). I'd say just pick up the JPN version personally, but it's up to you. Speaking as someone that's playing through both Grandia and Shining Force III (I) in Japanese, I'm sure you'll find Guardian Heroes fine

I think I will go the cheaper route and pick up the japanese next time I get paid which is the 15th, cant wait!

You should try them Spike

Both are such awesome games and Grandia is actually pretty easy to get into despite the language barrier. Grandia is an easy RPG anyways, and the translation guide keeps you informed with what's happening in the story. I've enjoyed every second of the game and its never felt like a chore to play. Shining Force iii is pretty hard though, so try that one at your own risk lol.
