I picked up about 8-9 2010 albums this year, these were the ones I kept coming back to. There are probably another four or five 2010 releases I hope to get to eventually, also.

There was music released in 2010? I saw more concerts in 2010 than I heard albums. First was P-Funk in Jan, last was Mike Gordon in Nov. Best show of the year?

The only 2010 release I really liked was Dark Tribe - Archaic Visions. Most of you wont be able to handle its awesomeness. However, their 2nd album, In Jeraspunta Die Rückkehr der Tollwütigen Bestie is the greatest black metal album I have ever heard.

My brother and cousin both recommended I check out the National as well. I listened to the samples on Amazon and it sounds good. I've seen that Springsteen made several "best of" lists and I got nothin' against the Boss, so I'll have to give that one a listen as well.

If you like Big Boi and Outkast, you should check out that Janelle Monae album I mentioned. Big Boi is the executive producer on the album and she has some Outkast-ish psychedelic hip hop funk weirdness to her. She was even on two of the better songs from Outkast's Idlewild soundtrack.

I couldn't get into The Suburbs, despite trying. Everyone seems to think Arcade Fire's albums keep getting ebtter. I think they've each improved a bit leading up to their best album Funeral...and have dropped off sharply since.

The Promise and the Monae album are some of those I was alluding to when I mentioned I still wanted to pick up a few things from 2010 and give them a listen. I'll probably give Big Boi's album a "trail-run" first to see what I think.

The Boss is my absolute favorite (next to the smiths who don't put anything out) so there is a definite bias towards that record

I actually saw Janelle Monae in the summer of 09 at Bonnaroo and I loved the show, but when I heard the album I was half impressed, I really want to give it a second listen though, because the song she did with Big Boi (on his album) was one of my favorite tracks, so I will keep looking into it, you have motivated me

What metal sub-genre is this? By your description it sounds interesting but the only metal I've liked is symphonic metal (Rhapsody of Fire, Dragonland, etc.).
They've been described as symphonic metal by some, power metal by others. There's a fairly good chance you'll enjoy their work. A lot of their work is concept albums based on classic literature(like Faust) or fantasy based stuff(King Arthur, Elizabeth Bathory, etc.). The Black Halo is probably their best work, but the majority of their catalogue is pretty good. Khan has some of the best vocals I've ever heard. Not unusual for symphonic metal bands, but his are pretty distinctive

Some of my favorite bands are usually considered symphonic metal like Epica, Nightwish, Delain, Sirenia, Leaves Eyes, etc. I love me some Euro metal :)

I had never heard Kamelot before, so I just checked out this video. Not bad. They've got some good musical chops and I like that they they kind of blur the lines across multiple metal subgenres. Thanks for the recommend.

Here's Janelle Monae's evocatively up-close and personal video for her song Cold War and here is her stylish video for Tight Rope (ft. Big Boi).
