hey people!
I am having a problem with my tv and the sensor bar for the wii!
I dont own an HD tv, I just have the classic crt tv. I put up the sensor bar right on the edge of my tv like it says. I've been playing some games and recently as i go to the wii main screen, there are two darker spots farther down on my tv! They are suspiciously below where the wii sensor bar's shiny area is!
Once I saw this I put on the plastic piece that raises the sensor bar higher. I dont wanna mess up the tv more.
but this just leaves me thinking? Are those sensor bars magnetic? They dont look like it tho. I know magnets mess up tvs but electronic devices like the sensor bar do as well?
I dont have any external speakers or surround sound systems near my tv, so that cant be it. So what can I do?
It's not too serious of a problem yet, the tv still looks fine, but now that I see it, I cant not see it!
Its not a crazy funky color (as a kid I've messed up some tvs), just two darker spots on it.
has this happend to any of you out there or something similar?
does the wii sensor bar mess up CRT tvs?

Re: does the wii sensor bar mess up CRT tvs?
As far as I know, there are no magnets in a wii sensor bar. It is only designed to detect tiny amounts of infrared light from the wiimote.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
Re: does the wii sensor bar mess up CRT tvs?
The sensor bar is just a couple of IR LEDs, so the magnetic field should be incredibly weak (as any current will generate a magnetic field).flojocabron wrote:but this just leaves me thinking? Sounds like your TV needs a degaussing.
(FC, AVFC, NES, SFC x2, SNES, N64, GC x2, Wii x2)*(G&W x7, GB, GBpocket, GBASP, DS-L x2)
(GEN, SS x3, DC x3)*(PCE-Duo)*(Xbox:500GB)*(NGCDZ, NGPC)*(PS1, PStwo, PS3:160GB, PSP.3K)

Lolno.
I've had my Wii since 2007. And I own a CRT TV from the late 90s or early 2000s.

Not easy to haul the TV out for a Degauss, nothing built in like the CRT computer monitor.
That is strange, there are just lights inside the Wii bar. Maybe move that sensor bar up with a short stand or the next higher shelf? Recalibrate should be able to handle the difference in height.

My Mitsubishi has a degauss function built-in to the TV. His might. Then again I've never seen it on anything other than a Mitsubishi so maybe not.CRTGAMER wrote:Not easy to haul the TV out for a Degauss, nothing built in like the CRT computer monitor.

we used to degause TVs in physics with a magnet. I don't believe its that hard. You just need a sufficiently strong magnetic, then you create an alternating magnetic field by rotating the magnetic quickly.

Degaussing wands and rings do flip the field back and forth, but yeah, don't put magnets near your screen. If your TV is small and you have a similar sized CRT monitor, putting them face to face and running the monitor degauss might help.Jamisonia wrote:we used to degause TVs in physics with a magnet. Obligatory awesome degaussing wand shot courtesy of Dan's Data.

Re: does the wii sensor bar mess up CRT tvs?
I've successfully used my soldering gun (not a soldering iron, a GUN) to degausse my 31 inch JVC CRT TV. It took a couple of tries, but it worked and got rid of a screen blotch caused by a strong magnet that got too close to the screen.
