Ok, so it'd be easy to say that everyone here has a video game collection, and we've talked about Movies and Books here on the off-topic board so it's probably safe to say too that many of us would have a nice collection of books or movies as well.
So let's talk about that!
What are the other collections you have? Movies? Books? Music? Comics? Action Figures? Other non-pop-culture items like spoons, cookie jars, ketchup packets, marketing memorabilia?
Anyway, I've got a growing DVD and book collection myself though neither as avidly as games. I tend to buy DVDs only if I know I'll really like the movie or if I've seen it before, etc... and likewise with books. Not to mention with services at the Library or things like Netflix the tendency to buy a book or movie has decreased significantly.
But on top of that, my wife bought a record player for me and so has begun a small collection of vinyl records. We've currently only three albums but they're all fantastic. It feels very different to sit down with a record spinning and listening from start to finish, even with doing something else. I'm anticipating getting some of the classic albums by bands like The Beatles, Zeppelin, Queen, etc... some of my favorites.
What we currently have is...
Abbey Road by The Beatles
Trumpet Child by Over The Rhine
Strict Joy by The Swell Season
And you?

Re: Other Collections?
I have some wide shots of my movie and music collections in my now woefully out of date collection thread: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... =28&t=9557
I probably have 400-500 movies (about 1/3 Blu-Ray and 2/3 DVD) and somewhere between 1000-1500 (non burned) CDs.

I collect some comics: The Flash and Booster Gold, mostly.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Re: Other Collections?
I collected comics for the past 25 years, but stopped cold turkey a few years ago. Between economic factors, the incestuous market, and the drying up of any actual collectible (bronze, silver, and golden age) comics locally, I gave up. I channeled some of what I budgeted for comics into gaming, and not looked back. I may pick up the occasional trade, but my weekly wednesday visits are over.
Re: Other Collections?
I have a small collection of comic books and a reasonable collection of action figures from the Marvel Legends line, though I've actively stopped collecting both. I didn't like some of Marvel's storylines in the past decade to continue, and when ToyBiz sold the Legends line to Hasbro, my interest in them waned. I still intend to pick up the War Machine figure, but that's only because he comes with the one piece I need to finish the giant Galactus figure.
I also have a decent collection of books, but further growth is limited due to a lack of space. And my girlfriend collects bottles.

Re: Other Collections?
Nice, quite a few comic collectors. Part of me wants to as well mainly because of Big Bang Theory. I used to have a few when I was little but nothing serious.
Love the oddball stuff! I've heard of a few people doing the Pez thing, but antique pens is one I haven't heard before though I'm sure there's loads out there. Any specific reason for the Pens?Snickerd00dle wrote:Pez Dispensers

I've always wanted a whole library room in my house which is, unfortunately, to small for something like that. But maybe one day. Any specifics on the bottles?Ack wrote:I also have a decent collection of books, but further growth is limited due to a lack of space. And my girlfriend collects bottles.
Re: Other Collections?
Before I got into retrogaming I starting building a library of books and now have a completely full bookshelf and two additional boxes of books. I mostly buy and read stuff written before WWII, particularly the late 1800s. I have more books than I do games and I plan on keeping it that way. My ratio of books read/books owned and games beaten/games owned is about the same but now I easily beat more games than I do read books
. In high school I was mainly into collecting movies (particularly Criterion collection ones) and have a solid collection of ~60 movies that I love.

Re: Other Collections?
My wife and I - but mainly my wife - collect Arts & Crafts pottery and furniture. We also have a small collection of Japanese woodblock prints. (I recommend woodblock print collecting to anyone with an interest in Japanese art. Nice, original prints by well-known artists are not as expensive as you might think.) This works out well for us because there is a lot of overlap between the places you find good deals on antiques and the places you find good deals on old videogames.
Re: Other Collections?
Heh, so do I! A dedicated library has been a dream of mine for years, alongside a recreation of an early 90s arcade. But having spent the last 7 or so years living strictly in apartments, it's not been something I could easily do.GryeDor wrote:I've always wanted a whole library room in my house which is, unfortunately, to small for something like that. As for her bottle collection, she has a variety. The differences in shape, design, and sometimes colorization are what interest her the most, so things like soda and liquor bottles easily find their way into her collection. She also keeps a few cans of energy drinks that have been unique, such as the many based on video games that are appearing nowadays, or her two cans of Steven Seagal's energy drink.
