I just finished reading 'Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom' by Cory Doctorow. It's not a long read and very ingenious. The best part about the book is that the author released the book under a creative commons noncommercial license on his website. So anyone can download it. The book was also nominated for a nebula award in 2004.

Doctorow? Hmm, I've been meaning to look at some of his stuff. Maybe I ought to now.

Bought for my friend, and consequently read, Old Man Logan. I liked that a lot.

Right now, reading Johnathan Strange and Mr Norrell. The book seriously rivals LOTR and Harry Potter. Better, in my opinion.

No actual novels to post yet. However, I recently picked up the awesome TPB Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Tales. This thing is huge with roughly 300 pages in hardcover form with a book cover on it as well. It's very tall for some reason, which gives it presence but makes it hard to put on a typical book shelf. I love the size of this thing, like a college textbook and the cover art by Jo Chen is gorgeous as all her Buffy work typically is.

This thing is a compilation of the various Tales of the Slayers and Tales of the Vampires stories that Darkhorse have released. So basically, it's a collection of short stories dealing with various slayers that preceeded Buffy and a bunch of stories dealing with things from a vampire perspective. Most of these stories are written by people who wrote on the original Buffy and Angel tv shows including Joss Whedon himself. People like Jane Espenson for example, who has also written for Ron Moore's Battlestar Galactica as well as Caprica and some people who've done work on shows like 24 and Lost. There's some notable people from the comic book industry who've contributed to this as well like artists Tim Sale and Leinil Francis Yu. There's some really great stories in this book and it's a great companion to both the original tv shows and the Buffy season 8 comic books(as some of the stories occur during that point in time). I love this thing. It's just plain awesome and the large size of it really gives the artwork room to breathe

Disquisition on Government - John C. Calhoun

For about 80 pages, Calhoun is pretty long winded. Either way, it was pretty interesting. The next book I plan on reading is the Communist Manifesto. During my graduate studies this semester we talked about Marx a lot, but I am woefully under educated about him, so I figured it was appropriate to read it. And thanks to Kindle, it is free.

For about 80 pages, Calhoun is pretty long winded. Either way, it was pretty interesting. The next book I plan on reading is the Communist Manifesto. During my graduate studies this semester we talked about Marx a lot, but I am woefully under educated about him, so I figured it was appropriate to read it. And thanks to Kindle, it is free.

Manifesto is a friendly intro to Marx, but if you get through it perhaps give Das Capital a try. If you dig that, then prepare to take on the Grundrisse.

Yeah, but The Communist Manifesto can be read in one sitting, though- it is quite short (even if you get the expanded version with all various prefaces for each edition by Engels).
