This is my album of the year. It's so funky, soulful, jivin, rhythm n bluesy. She is just an amazing talent in every area of music she touches. Love it.

Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross: The Social Network

I am a huge Nine Inch Nails fan, so I'm biased towards liking anything Reznor does. But I don't care who you are, his rendition of In The Hall of the Mountain King is genius.

David Byrne and Fat Boy Slim: Here Lies Love

I didn't think an album about the life of Emelda Marcos would be so fascinating, but I really enjoyed this strange concept album. Lots of great guest stars too. It's like an musical documentary and I like the idea of applying a soundtrack to a real person's life.


Well, that's only 3, but that's about all I can come up with for now. Normally, I have a hard time containing myself to a top 25 best album list, but this year... I don't know if it is just that I'm not hearing the right stuff, but I've hardly liked any new music I've come across. I'm very interested to hear what you guys liked because I feel like I'm missing out on the good stuff, even though I'm usually on top of what's fresh in the music scene. I was just out of it or not into it this year. I'm not sure which. What did you listen to and like?

There's one real album that I must say that I really liked in 2010...and that is DEVO's SOMETHING FOR EVERYBODY!!


I'm a huge huge huge Devo fan, and when they leaked 30 second clips for the song study, I was a little worried, but when it came out, it turned out to be quite good! While I still like Total Devo and Smoothnoodlemaps, I think this is their best album since Shout, maybe even Oh No! It's Devo! If you do grab it, I recommend the deluxe edition on iTunes or AmazonMP3, because of the kickass bonus tracks!

A runner up would be the Scott Pilgrim Soundtrack, but other than that....I don't think anything came out this year that was all ZOMG for me at least.

Circa Survive's Blue Sky Noise... their biggest album yet I think. Space-rock with some tasteful prog elements. Excellent musicianship from every member and the singer is definitely one of the more unique "rock and roll" vocalists of our time. Saw these guys a few months back and it was a freakin amazing show.

Well, I'm mostly a metal person(especially European metal). Most of the metal I've been listening to lately came out before 2010. However, I'm mostly opened minded about music and there are a few other things that came out this year that I enjoyed. Here we go:


Kamelot always delivers for me. The lyrical content is always interesting. There are songs about the Zodiac Killer, the death of one's mother, a song about an Incubus, some interesting stuff. Then of course you have the amazing vocals by Roy Khan. Here, he even joins up with Simone Simmons, one of the best female vocalists in metal for an awesome duet in House on a Hill. There's also a badass instrumental bonus track on some copies of the album called Thespian Drama



I don't like the game, but the soundtrack is the shit. Having heard Anamanaguchi's previous two albums, I find this one to have FAR more memorable tracks on it. Just about every song is a winner really. The whole Scott Pilgrim thing was strange for me this year. While the game let me down, the movie and the game's soundtrack put big smiles on my face. Now I just have to check out the comic


I hadn't heard of Crystal Castles before this year. Their music appeals to me for the same reason Anamanaguchi's music does, it makes me think of video games. Both this and the previous album have some catchy tracks that I enjoyed and their music is so weird and unconventional(at least compared to what I typically listen to). A lot of it sounds like something from some weird, science fiction, futuristic world. And hey, they're referencing She-Ra. That is so awesomely geeky


Chatelaine with Take a Line for a Walk. I've been a fan of Toni Halliday for a while with her work on Curve, a great shoegazing project that never really hit it big(though people like to say Garbage kind of stole their sound). Some of their songs have been heard on commercials, Buffy episodes and movie commercials. So I think some people may have heard Curve's work without knowing anything about them. Anyway, it's nice to see her back in music with this solo project called Chatelaine.


Coheed and Cambria's Year of the Black Rainbow. I've become a big fan of their music depite knowing nothing about the comics their songs are related to. Far and Pearl of the Stars were great, emotional tracks and much of the other tracks were great head bangers. I also loved the really depressing, yet awesome title track that closes out the album


Sleigh Bells with their album Treats. Seems some people hate them even though the album has received widespread critical acclaim. Personally, I found a lot of these tracks very catchy and the metalhead in me appreciates the emphasis on VOLUME on a few of the tracks like Infinity Guitars and Straight As.


Tarja's solo work is nowhere near as awesome as when she was with Nightwish, but I like a few tracks like Until My Last Breath, I Feel Immortal and Falling Awake. Her voice is still as amazing as ever

Oh man, if you love the movie, you will love the comic. It goes into way more detail then the movie, and towards the later half, really diverges from the film. But in a good way? The pace is also much slower in the comic than the movie, which makes sense because they had to take over 1,000 pages of comics to squeeze into a 2 hour movie. I really want to pick up the Game soundtrack and the film score album one of these days, because of how much I loved the regular soundtrack.

What metal sub-genre is this? By your description it sounds interesting but the only metal I've liked is symphonic metal (Rhapsody of Fire, Dragonland, etc.).
