Yeah, I tried doing something similar in excel and it didn't work too well. The formatting is just inconsistent enough that you have to do it manually.

I had a series of funky wildcard replacements that had to be done in the right order in Word, then some manual fixes before ending up with $## to dump in Excel.

I did it semi-manually in that I added up individual sections in my head before jotting them down (so that I ended up with 30-some values instead of 300).

I can't just go by what I've been sent so far minus what I still need to receive as I suspect some people overpaid a little bit on purpose but forgot to mention that the overpayment was supposed to go to the shipping pot. What I plan to do is figure out exactly what the total is from the thread, send a check to MAW for that amount (minus what people already donated to MAW directly), and use the rest to help with the shipping costs.

So accuracy is paramount.

No worries, there's no great rush on this anyway. I plan to send the payment to MAW only after I know all the packages that were paid for have been mailed. So we have some time.

How's this for an idea? We take your adding up subject headings but put the total next to each section heading. That way we have independent verification of each total. Then we do an add of that. If no other mod gets to this I'll take a stab after work.
