Virtua Fighter 2 Genesis. Any Fans?

Post by MegaDrive20XX »

This particular Genesis fighter seems to keep coming back to me from time to time. I mean sure there are obviously the Saturn and PS2 editions of this game, but the Genesis game still surprises me how they were able to crunch it into a cart and still have the same responsive move list as it's bigger brothers while maintaining a 2D look and feel. I do admit, I'm a sucker for the BGM remixes on this version since it really don't skip a beat compared to the original soundtrack.

I used to have this game and I loved it, but my mother threw away the game last year. I forgot it back at home, when I took my Mega Drive with me and she figured out I didn't want it :(

I picked it up for $3 a few months ago and also am surprised to play a demake of a game on saturn.

Isn't it also on Steam Network and the PSP Sega Genesis Collection too?

Well I'm glad to hear people liked it. I thought it was a bold move of Sega to do it. Sorry to hear for your loss ZeroAX. :(

It was a great 2D fighter, and way different than all the Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat clones.

I don't think it was a bold move by Sega. I think it was one of the few sane moves they did between 1995 and 1998 (this game came out in 96 btw for those who might be wondering). Nintendo made a lot of money by continuing support of the SNES for years. Donkey Kong Country 1,2 and 3 and Yoshi's Island alone must have made them millions.

Yet this is one of the few games Sega released on the Mega Drive once the Saturn was out.

I concur, Sega was trying to please it's fans during the time frame. Throwing out everything they could and while Sega's marketing was aimed at the Sega Saturn and 32X during 1996, it was probably time to send in a few Genesis games to not leave the fans hanging.
