when are the ps2 games finally gonna stop?

I just recently noticed that the ps2 still has a couple of sports games slated for March of next year...

Geez, how long do they plan on letting this console go on? I don't remember the ps1 sticking around this long, it's been almost an entire console generation since it was displaced by the ps3.

The last big title was Sakura Wars, so anything as this point is a play for a few extra bucks.

Sony officially dropped support for it at the end of 2010, so it'll not be too long. The PSX was supported 'til 2006, so really it's on par at the moment. The PS2 shelves have all disappeared around my way now, have to go out of your way to find some.

Where did you hear that?

Sony has always said that they will stop supporting the PS2 when they stop selling and there's no longer any demand for it.

From Wiki:
"In late 2009, with developers creating new games and the console still selling steadily a decade after its original release, Sony stated that the life cycle of the PlayStation 2 will continue until demand ceases."

"The original life span for the console was set at 10 years, but according to Sony, its lifecycle will continue as long as developers continue to make new games for the system, and as long as the console and its games continue to sell."

Also, Sony only just launched the PS2 in Brazil and South Africa on November 18th 2009, and in Argentina on April 30th 2010. So they probably have plans to stick it out for quite a while longer.
