I feel like such an idiot for posting this, but it's driving me crazy. Also did a search but didn't come up with anything.
I've been using my 360 on live the past week or 2 with zero issues. I use a wired connection run straight from my modem. All of a sudden I cannot get it to connect for anything.
I've restarted the modem a few times, I've restarted the 360, reset settings to default, plugged modem into my computer to confirm internet was working. I've done Test Connection and I am getting nothing.
The only thing I've done different is use a different ethernet cable. I bought one from Gamestop. I believe it is one of the ones that originally came packaged with the Xboxs. Anyway the cable works just fine when plugged into my computer. I also tried using my old ethernet cable and got nothing as well on the 360.
I unplugged the ethernet cable from the 360 after running a Test Connection that failed, plugged it into my computer and it worked instantly.
Any help would be much appreciated. I'm really hoping its just something that will make me look like an idiot instead of something being screwed up.

Maybe check in the socket on the 360 and make sure that all 8 pins are parallel and one didn't get bent over and it touching another?

I had the same problem. One ethernet cable works on my PC, but doesn't work on the 360. Another one works on both my other PC, and the 360. Try another cable.

Bad Gooseberrysoda!
Here's another idea. If the cable seems to be one that came with an Xbox, that pretty much rules out it being a crossover cable. Maybe check that you're not plugging it into a crossover port on the modem/router though? Some PC network and router hardware will automatically detect and switch when hooked to a crossover port (used for linking routers) instead of a normal port. I doubt the 360 has the same capability as the average Joe console user isn't going to have multiple routers/hubs and they wanted everyone to buy the wireless adapter anyway.

Re: Xbox 360 won't connect to internet
So your cable connection doesn't have a router where you can plug multiple network connections into it? It would be good to have one.
An ethernet cable shouldn't be different between devices. I mean, it's just 4 twisted pairs of wires. I would look at the xbox 360 system settings and see what the network settings are. Compare them with the settings on your computer.
Does the cable modem/router have a link light that shows that you're connected? Does it show anything for the 360?
