Buying Game Boxes

Buying retro games online can be a gamble. Lying is way too easy with just a picture and certain cracks and wrinkles in a game box can be hidden. Some bigger retailers like Gamestop don't even guarantee boxes with used games. What do you do in this situation?

Sometimes the boxes can be found on Ebay. In the case of a cardboard box like those for the GBA or SNES they might even include all the inserts, but sometimes they can be tough to find. Do you buy a whole new copy, just wait for the box to come up some day or is this whole practice completely weird to you? Also, is there any site online that sells boxes direct instead of auction sites like Ebay? That's a longshot but a man can dream.

Check out the website for the cover project. They have top notch scans you can print up for a TON of titles. These are perfect fit in spare cases.

I've never downloaded anything from The Cover Project because I don't own a home printer, but I must say that I really like the fact that you can download DVD-size Sega Saturn covers. Even though I own most of the original large jewel cases for my games, a lot of them are cracked and such, and I think the DVD-size covers would be much more appealing to the eye and allow me to put more of my games on the shelves. Also, some of the custom covers are much more imaginative and attractive than their original counterparts. Especially when it comes to the U.S. artwork

I would just get them printed at a place like Staples. If someone says copyright etc, try a different person a different day.

They fit PAL/JP games fine.

Personally I don't think they're so expensive, even with shipping 60 bucks for 100 of them isn't bad at all.

...oh wait you're from Greece right? Well never-mind then, getting those cases to Europe is pretty hard without paying a hefty premium.

hahah, no no no, that's for a box of 100 of them.

Unfortunately, like I said, shipping is brutal to europe.

EDIT: oh yeah, it's worth mentioning that Racketboy sells individual UGC's in his store. It's a better deal to buy 100, but if you can't afford that or only need a couple you can buy from him.

oh cool. With postage it's about 80$ for 30 cases, and with the favorable exchange rate that's 60€ for me, about the same as a full game.

oups never mind it's 86$ for 24 cases.... I'll see if there is a number of cases I can order that has a lower P&P cost for the same number of cases
