Favourite movies of 2010?

Post by Pulsar_t »

Toy Story 3
ImageThis is a jolly, slapstick comedy, lacking the almost eerie humanity that infused the earlier "Toy Story" sagas, and happier with action and jokes than with characters and emotions.Image—Chicago Sun Times

Image
Black Swan
ImagePortman's portrait of an artist under siege is unmissable and unforgettable. So is the movie. You won't know what hit you.Image—Rolling Stone

Image
Carancho
ImageDirector Pablo Trapero employs a gritty handheld documentary style in keeping with his sobering subject matter. This approach is at times disconcerting, but then it should be.Image—Moving Pictures Magazine

Image
Kosmos
ImageBut [Kosmos]'s still a gorgeous, bittersweet parable deeper and more intelligent than countless better-known films covering the same ground, and for those prepared to put the work in the payoff is immense. Flawed though it might be Kosmos still qualifies as one of the best films of the year, and comes hugely recommended.Image—TwitchFilm

Image
Rubber
ImageA film brimming with comic brilliance and manic originality.Image—Cinematical

Image
Boy
ImageThe gags are funny, understated, and unconventional, and the story it tells is the universal one of a boy growing up and realizing that his father may not be the all-conquering hero he always imagined him to be.Image—The Critical Movie Critics

Image
Animal Kingdom
ImageAnimal Kingdom joins in the tradition of brutally unsentimental Australian crime dramas like "The Boys," in which the stakes are low, except to the people staring down the barrel of a gun.Image—The Onion A.V. Club

Image
Inside Job
ImageThis is a true-life heist movie, and the thieves not only got away with their billions, they're still doing business. Pay attention and blow a gasket.Image—Time

Image
The Town
ImageThe Town is that rare beast, a grown-up genre flick, chock-full of compelling character dynamics and a clutch of pitch-perfect performances.Image—Empire

Image
Never Let Me Go
ImageDirector Mark Romanek captures the slightly seedy and rundown reality of '70s and '80s British life in astonishing and even tragic detail; this is more like a period piece than a science-fiction movie.Image—Salon.com

I was going to add a whole bunch more but IMDb lists them as 2009 movies, so I refrained from including them even though many 2010 lists do include them, differences in distribution dates most likely being the reason.

No Inception? I thought it was pretty good. Haven't seen most of those above, aside from Toy Story 3, which was also very good.

Kickass(Tons of fun. Celebrating and poking fun at superhero movies at the same time. Points for originality too for its very young, female action hero. And hey, Nic Cage didn't suck in this movie)
Scott Pilgrim vs the World(Freshest, most original movie I've seen in a while. Rivals Kickass for most fun movie I've seen this year)
Inception(Great movie, but a bit too long and a bit more convaluted than it need to be)
Batman: Under the Red Hood(Masterpiece. Animation's answer to The Dark Knight)
Superman/Batman: Apocalypse(This one's all about the kickass action. Wonder Woman and Barta vs the Furies? Yes, please)

That's all I can remember seeing this year that was actually released this year(which is why District 9 isn't on my list). I loved each of these movies

Much like my gaming, it seems I didn't do too much movie watching this year. I wish I had seen Salt. I'm going to have to get the blue ray or get it On Demand

1. True Grit
2. Scott Pilgrim vs The World
3. The Town
4. Inception
5. Tron Legacy
6. Batman: Under the Red Hood

I would have done a top ten, but I haven't seen many movies this year. I guess I have to see Toy Story 3 judging from how high it is on most people's list.

I haven't seen True Grit yet. That would probably make this too.

Kick Ass - Awesome, probably better than the comic book. Chloe Moretz steals pretty much every scene

Machete - Rodriguez mexploitation badassery. Tons of awesome actors in this movie, and tons of Danny Trejo being a total hard ass.

127 Hours - Performance of a career from Franco. Great storytelling for such a limited scope. Pulled off something I could never even imagine possible in film.

Toy Story 3 - Wrapped the story up nicely. Top quality as always from Pixar, telling wonderful stories instead of just making bank off of kids.

The Social Network - This screenplay to this movie was pretty tight, pretty really tight. It was a pretty sad story, and a really good performance by Jesse Eisenberg.

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World - This movie is brilliant. It's hilarious. It's vastly original yet true to the source material. Art direction is insane. The entire cast was perfect. Edgar Wright and every single person involved did an amazing job on this wonderful movie that didn't get the respect it deserved, at all.

Inception - Such a wonderful example of brilliant movie making. This movie is just an absolute treat to watch. One of the most creative and original stories I've ever seen. Great acting all around. Simply genius directing from Nolan.

Black Swan - My favorite film of this year. Words really cannot describe how beautiful this movie is. I only saw it 2 days ago, but the entire duration of the film I was completely entranced. I was so drawn into this magnificent, dark world. Amazing performances all around. I can see people not wanting to see this, due to it being about ballet. I believe anyone who loves film will adore this movie. In my eyes, Darren Aronofsky made a masterpiece here, and I cannot praise it enough.
Oh, come on, don't leave your uncle T-Bag hangin'!
