Is there a gun thread?

I searched for "guns" and "firearms" and just came up with movie threads, console light guns and the like. If there's already a 'Guns and Firearms' thread, please feel free to whack this post or send it to that thread.


Anyone here into guns? I'd love to come in and say that I know all kinds of awesome info on guns but the truth is I only recently got into them so I'm a total newb. I'd never fired a pistol in my life until about a month ago. I've fired shotguns and rifles when hunting as a kid with my dad, but never a pistol. So far I only have experience with a Ruger Mark III .22lr, a S&W MnP9(I think that's it's name), a Sig Sauer P220 .45, and a Ruger GP-100 357 Magnum.

For years I thought shooting was lame, boring, etc. Clearly I'd never tried it myself. I'm totally hooked on it now. Got a membership at a local shooting range (Eagle Peak for you local Austin peeps) and I even just purchased my first pistol, a Ruger SR9c. I have yet to fire it because I haven't been able to get to the range, but I'm itching to try it out.

So yeah, anyone else?

Only thing I have ever fired is a Berretta M9; is a standard issue weapon for multiple US armed force branches. A friend owned it and invited us to the range to fire it; was my first time and I enjoyed it.

On real guns, I only use them when necessary. (Not shooting people. Wild animals that get after livestock.)

I used to fire guns sometimes when I was in Boy Scouts. Don't know any specifics about them except they were rifles and shotguns. Was never a big gun nut, since I had no interest in hunting or the like.

Same here. I've got my rifle shooting merit badge. Shooting five shots in an area the size of a quarter, then doing it again on another target immediately afterwards? Tough, but not tough enough for me.

I also have taken five shots from a shotgun at clay pigeons. I'd consider hitting one out of five when I'd never used a shotgun before to be pretty good.
