Help: someone got my details from omegle

Post by SegaDreamscape »

Im not really clued in on pc stuff and something happend thats kinda worrying me. I was using a video chat site i was told about called omegle and found out that its populated by mainly horny guys jacking off on webcams. That didnt bother me too much i thought it was kinda funny and just quickly jumped to the next person when it happened. However one of the screens i landed on was just black and then whoever it was posted my isp details as their chat.

I didn't give them any details and before i could type anything they were gone. Im worried because i dont know how they did this and dont know what they can do with that info.

Can anybody let me know if im right to be worried about this or is this info easy for anybody to find and hopefully no use to them?
I haven't slept for ten days, because that would be too long.

If you're connected to something or someone on the internet, it's easy to find out your IP address and what ISP you're using. That's how the internet works. It has to know your details as well as the computer on the other end you're connected to.

Go to http://infosniper.net right now and it will tell you your IP address and even the location of the ISP server you're connected to. If you're running a firewall that's set up properly as well as AV and some sort of spyware protection you're mostly ok.

Want to see everything your PC currently has a connection to? Open up RUN, type CMD, then when you get the window type NETSTAT. Anythign that says LOCALHOST isn't leaving your PC but pretty much everything else is.

The information is easy to find. When you're connected to another computer your IP address is known (this is how the internet works). Through your numerical IP address some well-known databases and utilities that have been around for many years can be used to deduce your ISP, Country, your IP address can even be trace-routed to find out fairly close where you're located (usually which city tho it's always pretty vague). The only way around that kinda thing is using a proxy like TOR. It's nothing to worry about tho. The details end at a vague point where the last hop point your communication is using to connect to the other machine and never goes into more detail than which ISP you're using and a text-based conversion of your IP address into an ISP name.
edit: beat me to it. ah well.

I find it very amusing that we typed nearly the same thing as if it was just run through translation to and from another language.
