Early 90s movie trailer music

Post by Jrecee »

Who doesn't remember this song from the days of watching movie trailers on VHS tapes in the early 90s? Exactly what IS this song? Was it made for a movie and then used over and over in trailers ala robert rodriguez's kill bill theme? Or is it just some generic background song? Or is it some really famous song by a really famous band that I'm oblivious to?

That's the theme to Peter Gunn by Henry Mancini. It was a TV show in the late 50's/early 60's.

Best known in the retrogaming world for its use in Spy Hunter.

Specifically the one in that video was the Art of Noise cover, as opposed to Henry Mancini's original or the arcade version.

This reminds me, what's the deal with that generic "adventure" music that used to (and often still does) play during any trailer for a family movie?

I can't find any example of it at the moment, but its ridiculously common, and I've been hearing that damn theme for years.

Its never in any of the movies either, just the trailers.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about...?

No, that's not the one.

I actually like that, and when its actually performed like in your link it sounds amazing.

Carmina Burana (Thanks for that by the way, I never knew the title) is definitely used a lot, in "epic" adventure stuff and occasionally for comedy. I always thought it was pretty cool.

The song I was thinking of is...different.

I did finally find a trailer that uses it, albeit lightly. I apologize for subjecting you to this. Skip ahead to 1:35 for the part where it begins.

This song is frequently stuck into bad "family" comedies and lots of animated movies. It never really fits anything its used for, but they put it in everywhere. Despite that common use, its still so damn generic that I forget which trailers actually use it.

I'm fairly certain its a stock tune at many studios.

Maybe I'm alone in this, but I really, really hate that song, and I cringe every time a trailer uses it.

Now that we are at it, do you know that song that plays in tons of trailers that goes CHAN CHAN CHAN CHAN CHAAAAAN (Snarky remark) (Title Drop)?

I'm looking for it to make a parody so any help would be apreciated!

CFFJR, the track you are talking about is from the Liar Liar soundtrack by John Debney. I think this it:

General Norris, can you remember any trailers that use the track you're looking for?

This is a good resource for solving these little mysteries:

No, I can't. I tought Avatar used it but I checked it out and it didn't. The music is kind of electronic, reminds me of Metal Gear 3 theme in some regard. It's more often used in your average action flick, specially if they steal something.

I'm looking at the list you posted and probably it's made by Immediate Music, sounds very much like it, kind of electronic, with the CHAN CHAN CHAN chorus.

Trailers are always so unoriginal. They normally turn me off from watching a movie instead of helping!
