That's probably it. I did bend the ribbon in a rather brutal manner. Off to buy a replacement screen then...

New screen, new problem. This time the screen stays dark. There is a barely visible picture (you need good light to see it at all) but the screen looks like it did not even turn on. It looks as if the backlight did not come on, if that makes any sense (since there is no backlight as far as I know.)
Broken screen or something else? Maybe the screen needs a higher voltage?

This project is turning bloody expensive...

Try Sonic 2 in it, and leave it sit until it shows the split-screen demo. Sounds like your screen doesn't support 240P, only 480I so it shows a picture but doesn't fully activate (they're all backlit). At least that's what happened to me. I forgot to mention it here (I posted about it on Bacteria's site). Still waiting on my new screen.

You're right. 480I activates the screen (colors are all wrong though). Which means that it's useless for the Nomad mod. In photos it looked exactly like one of the screens Hailrazer uses, but inside it was totally different.

Since this is the second time I got the wrong screen, can somebody give me a link to buy the exact correct screen please? Or maybe sell me one?
It would have been cheaper to mail my Nomad across the world to Hailrazer to mod it for me, rather than keep buying the wrong screens.

I just received my new screen. It works, and the picture's pretty good, but it's doing some sorta deinterlacing on the 240P signal.
I bought the screen following the images off hailrazer's definitive 3.5" guide):
This one was the cheapest on ebay at the time that looked like #3 with the front clear plastic bevel with diamond imprints so I couldn't go wrong.
I don't think this is my doing, but just how the screen works.

The missing/merged scanlines I can get past...

...but the random bobbing of the entire picture is pretty distracting.

Granted this is much improved over the original, but I'd like to ask those who have done this already, do your screens have these same issues, or is there a better one I should look for? If your screen off ebay is much better, please post the username of the seller so I can get the same one.

I bought a screen that looked like #2 and it has the same scanline problem, it was also vastly different internally and took some finagling to squeeze everything in.

I have a different problem however, after about 5-6 hours of play the screen will shutoff while the nomad itself continues to function (sound still playing etc), is this normal behavior? I'm using a 2500mah modded battery pack as well so the shutoff on the screen seems rather premature.

Anyone else experienced this issue / know what a possible problem could be? I guess the screen could be drawing much more power than similiar screens?

any tips are appreciated, thanks :)

All screens are different as are the batteries.

The batteries while rated 2500mAh are probably only 2000mAh. The screen will turn off when the amperage gets low while the Nomad continues to play or vice versa.

Normal.

right on, I'm happy with the improved screen either way, ultimately I can do without a big life gain for some quality sega gaming :)

thanks hailrazer for original guide
