You agreed on terms of a sale. You kept your side. Then he backed out. I can understand the -1 if you're rating this transaction.

Also, if he does post a -1 I don't think it should hold up. Unless there's a reason for him to logically show that you deserve a -1, you can't neg someone for giving you neg feedback. He can't say "-1 to dsh for keeping his end of the bargain."

You were sending money to a stranger who has shown they have issues completing deals with bad feedback, he was sending stuff to a stranger with over 100 feedback and no negatives.

A retalitorial negative when you were holding up your end of the agreement seems crap to me.

I arranged to buy his DSi XL bundle last night, and he agreed that becasue he had low feedback I could send enough to cover shipping costs and that the rest would be due on receipt of the item in the condition described.

crisis wrote:$22 will get it to you by Friday. I'd prefer that so we can close this transaction ASAP.

I sent him $22 PayPal last night, and this morning he refunded it. He explained that

crisis wrote:I decided against sending out a DSI bundle without payment for it. For all intents and purposes, I'd be sending a bunch of video game items to a stranger. Sorry.

What the hell?!

I spent about an hour this morning taking and uploading pictures of my DS Lite and writing a description to sell it. I told my wife that she'd soon have a nice new way of playing her favorite DS games. Granted, these developments weren't crisis' doing, but every other time I have arranged a purchase or trade on here the person has gone through with it. The fact that this transaction was so different from what is standard on the forums warrants a -1 in my book.

I'll add that he told me not to leave negative feedback.

crisis wrote:The bottom line is this: I gave it thought, and in my gut, I did not feel comfortable shipping something with no payment received. If you give me negative feedback, I will do the same thing...I am not going to be punished for something that isn't my problem. Please govern yourself accordingly.

I am not sure what he'd give me negative feedback for other than as retaliation for leaving him negative feedback. As far as I am concerned, feedback should account for the results of material items (money, games, etc.) being sent/received.

If the rest of you think I am over-reacting I'll consider changing the mark. I feel that negative mark is justified, though, and that it helps warn people against someone who is clearly difficult to deal with.

Why would anybody ship anything without first receiving payment? I agree with crisis for backing out. I don't think any feedback should be given in this situation and you should just let it go.

many times I've asked new users to send their item FIRST and I'll send mine when I receive theirs. It's an act of good faith. I think this is the same exact thing, except with money.

Trading is different though, you kind of have to do it that way. Because even though you can agree "to ship at the same time", there is no guarantee the other person kept his side of the bargain.

You should never ship something without getting paid, it is just common sense, even if dsheinem is a highly trustable person.

I agree with Crisis and Saturnfan. Payment is Needed first. Paypal will get your back if its a sour deal. Dont gift a shit ton of money and you will be ok. NEVER NEVER ship anything without getting paid EVER. no matter who it is.

The transaction NEVER happened therefor I demand you respectfully REMOVE the -1 feedback. It is not his fault you promised your wife and item that wasn't on the way yet. I think it is a bit preemptive to post a smeer campaign against someone for something that didn't happen. He didn't steal anything from you.

@ Saturn

Why should I send money to a stranger without an item in my hand first? (rhetorical)

If nobody trusted anyone else we'd never do any trading and mail order and ordering online wouldn't work. In this case it is a trusted member of the forum with 100+ positive feedback and no negatives versus one who had one positive and one negative before the transaction started. The seller agreed to the transaction, then backed out.

well I guess we'll just agree to disagree.

But I don't think dsh is upset about him not agreeing to ship first, it's the fact that he agreed and then bailed later.

Because if you use paypal the right way with someone you don't know or has bad feedback then paypal will cover your ass. you know? There is no other way about it. If you gift stuff to people you do not know then you are foolish.

I just had an awesome deal with Crisis actually. My next post will be about that.
