Sega Saturn CD Burning

Post by Nachyoz »

I have a 32 Pin model 2 Saturn with a mod chip installed using the A+B method.

I burned an image "Shining the Holy Ark" and the game runs fine. As do all the non back-up Saturn games I have. But I burned an image of "Dragon Force" and when this game starts it shows the SEGA logo screen and then immediately goes into the BIOS screen. It DOES NOT say the game is an audio CD but insists its a Saturn game. If I try to run it again the same thing happens (SEGA screen then flashes green then BIOS). Then on the third time the Saturn says the CD is audio.

I've tried two different images, both burnt with nero. Any ideas on what could be going on would be appreciated.

I would guess the ISO could be bad. A lot of times the same ISO is put up on the internet in multiple places. It's the same ISO, even though you get it from different sites. It's certainly a possibility.

But my suggestion is to try a few more games. See if others work.

Also... Did you use the same media for Shining and Dragon Force? Some systems are picky about the media. Burn at a slower speed (16X should be slow enough and it'll still burn quickly).

Come back and post your results as to what happens with other games and maybe we can go from there if it didn't solve the issue.

Ive found that if I burn at 4x sometimes I can get around that problem. But like diehllane said, bad iso is likely.

Saturn was one of the systems I was able to burn my games at top speed without an issue. No DREs.

Another suggestion, if you know someone personally who has a working copy, more than likely a backup, either copy it or have them rip it and send you the ISO.

www.4shared.com is a great site for sharing things. Just have them compress the ISO for you and it will store on there rather easily.

Thanks for the advice, the 2 BIN/CUE's I have tried are different sizes so it is unlikely that they are the same. I burned all the games on the same media. Also, the burned CD as well as the BIN/CUE run in SSF.

I have a few other images I can try as well. I'll post the results up.

the correct size of the bin should be ~665.481 mb'ish

For the cue, it should be:

Code: Select all

FILE "DRAGON_FORCE.BIN" BINARY
  TRACK 01 MODE1/2352
    INDEX 01 00:00:00
  TRACK 02 AUDIO
    PREGAP 00:02:00
    INDEX 01 62:31:42

change the file name accordingly. that should help you out some.

I tried burning Panzer Dragoon Saga. This game has the same issue, but resets to BIOS but after the intro movie plays. So the game starts and runs until the movie ends then goes to BIOS.

I'll try that new cue file scott21 and let you know if anything else changes. But since more than 1 game has the issue it might be something with my system or the mod.

PDS cd 1's size should be 663.518 megs. cue sheet reads:

Code: Select all

FILE "PANZER_DRAGOON_SAGA_(CD1).BIN" BINARY
  TRACK 01 MODE1/2352
    INDEX 01 00:00:00
  TRACK 02 AUDIO
    PREGAP 00:02:00
    INDEX 01 60:59:23
  TRACK 03 AUDIO
    INDEX 00 61:07:60
    INDEX 01 61:09:60

Both my cue sheets match although the bins are roughly the same size but not exactly. Tomorrow I'll try ripping one of the games I have and then reburning it to see if it is the images I have or the media/burn speeds or something else completely.

Thanks for all the help.

I ripped my original "Baku Baku" CD using CDRWin. Then I burned it on the same media and using same program as the other games. The "Baku Baku" backup runs fine, this means either the ISOs are bad (they all ran in the emulator though) or something else is wrong. At a loss myself.
