I use Fraps on my show. Good audio/video quality, although you need to play via emulator. It also does screenshots, both single and at set intervals (every 5 seconds or whatever).

So did you learn the name of this magical 5$ device?

I just asked him, he said it was StarTech. So I'm assuming it's this one:

That's the retail price, but you can find it for cheaper other places (Buy.com, walmart.com, etc). I saw it on eBay for $35 shipped. Not sure if the $5 was for that or if my memory crossed two different stories. He said he uses it with Debut Video Capture to make the videos, said playing games through Debut is do-able because there's little to no lag. I've seen a few of the gameplay videos he's made, and they look great. So even though I haven't used it myself, I would have to recommend this setup (and I'll probably be picking one up some time since I need a new capture device).
