Ah, I didn't realize that there really was a game just called Flash Hiders. I just searched Flash Hiders on eBay and YouTube and all it came up with was Battle Tycoon. Now that I looked it up on wikipedia, I see it was originally a PC Engine title.
This YouTube video is mostly cinema, but at the end is some battle footage.

I still like Killer Instinct for SNES. The graphics aren't that good, but the gameplay is indentical to the arcade's, IMO.

Here's the latest, and hopefully final, version of the top fighters list:

Thanks for all the comments. Damn, the more I played, the more new games I discovered, the clearer it became that this truly was the golden age of fighters.

One thing I did find a little disappointing was how bad some of the Mega Drive ports were compared to their SNES counterparts (i.e. Power Instinct and TMNT: Tournament Fighters). Yet the Samurai Shodown port for the Mega Drive is way better than that of the SNES.

Alright, I'm off to play more Endless Duel and Asuka 120%.

Oi, I started reading through this thread again, and I genuinely missed it. It was great discovering and helping others discover new fighters that I hadn't given enough respect to in the past.

I've played through a good many more fighters on the SNES in the last few weeks (finally had the opportunity to sit down and really enjoy them), and man it has been a fun ride. It's been like a tour of the genre during its 16-bit days.

Oh, I wanted to say that, since I'd been playing so many, I finally sat down and spent some quality time with what I consider the big one on the Super Nintendo: WeaponLord. I can finally say I've beaten it, though it was on the easiest difficulty. I'm definitely going to have to spend more time with this one to finally feel it snap together, but it's been a hell of an experience. I was giddy the first time I beheaded an opponent.

Whoa, nice work on WeaponLord. Even on the easy setting I found that the computer was eviscerating me with relative ease. I'm on the road right now for the holidays. But when I get home and have a proper controller I'll have to see if I can replicate your feat. Recently, I've been getting my fighting fix with BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger on the 360.

I have full confidence that you'll be able to get the job done Timewarpgamer. Have a safe trip and happy holiday. I've yet to play any of the BlazBlue games. I know, I'm behind the times. I actually only own a couple of fighters for the current generation, Soul Calibur IV, Virtua Fighter 5 (both 360 and PS3), and Battle Fantasia. Whenever I finally get a job that pulls in a paycheck worth a damn I'll be asking for some suggestions of fighters to look into this generation.

The top ten guy said the Megadrive original of Eternal Champions was a mediocre game.
I have to disagree with him it was a fantastic game that made use of the way the Megadrive worked plus most of all it played nothing like Street Fighter 2 which every other 1 on 1 fighting game did at the time while this is nothing against SF2 because I personally love it I have to say Eternal Champions is an underrated classic.

Also on the Samurai Shodown Issue while personally I would rather play the Megadrive version these days the Snes version had an advantage in that it had all of the Arcades moves and characters but the small zoomed out graphics makes the game a lot less visually appealing.
I played them both a lot and to be honest both conversions were crap after having played the game extensively in the Arcades I went back to play at the Arcade.
Only when the 3D0 came out I had a chance at playing the game in my home at the quality I wanted it to be but I couldn't afford a 3D0 and then the Sega Saturn and PS1 came out and no Samurai Shodown 1 or 2 release there either.

These days skip both conversions and play Samurai Shodown on Samurai Shodown Anthology

Thanks, Ack. Merry Christmas! Truth be told, BlazBlue was collecting dust on my shelf for months until I finally got it spinning the other day. I have a bad habit of picking up current gen games and taking forever to get around to playing them for the first time. Any other job that's more supportive of retro gaming sounds like a good one to me. One of these days...
