Legend of Zelda's 2nd Quest. Somehow my saved game would always get erased or some other technical catastrophe occurred.
Blaster Master. Has anyone ever managed to beat this without save states?
Comix Zone. So beautiful, such great music, yet so damn difficult. Seems unfair that even punching obstacles to get them out of the way so you can progress costs you life points.
Revenge of Shinobi. That darn last boss always got the best of me, even when I spammed the exploding body attack against him again and again. Maybe I should have used all those lifes for more chances...

Re: The games you were never able to beat
Mario Bros never posed that much of a challenge to me, I just hold right and the run button, and just jump periodically. Lost Levels on the other hand. That was infuriating. I managed to complete it all though. Just sheer persistence and learning patterns/jumps.
Pro-TIP: If you don't have any powerups and you know you're coming up to a hammer bro, just run full pelt at it (don't stop or hesitate, ever), and if it's on the ground by the time you're close, don't jump, it will most likely jump out of the way for you as it will expect you to jump. I can't remember the last time I got caught by a hammer bro... Same strategy applies with the hammer throwing bowsers.

Re: The games you were never able to beat
yeah I basically have no problem with SMB until world 8. The Hammer Bros I speak of are on stairs that you must ascend. That's what makes this part so hard, it's not like the typical Hammer Bros who are hanging out on those two platforms.Niode wrote:Mario Bros never posed that much of a challenge to me, I just hold right and the run button, and just jump periodically. I can't get passed the first level on any of the shinobi games... embarrasing.

The first Megaman. In particular the freaking rock demon! Also, Ninja Gaiden. I think it's the last level (i wouldn't know because i couldn't pass it!) and there are those birds flying around knocking me off the ledges. This is why J T has got to be some kind of demi-god

Re: The games you were never able to beat
I've actually been polishing off games that used to give me problems at a fairly consistent rate in recent years. I beat Alex Kidd in Miracle world, Mario Bros, Sonic 2, Revenge of Shinobi, The Lion King - loads of stuff from back in the day that I couldn't beat. The only one I've not done yet, that 've owned for more than 10 years is Mega Bomberman. I really should get around to trying that.
I would say that right now, the games that are giving me the most trouble are fairly recent aquisitions like Ninja Gaiden (NES - Stupid level 6-2) and Blazing Lasers (I cant beat the last level, but the other 8 are easy).
PS, the last boss of revenge of shinobi is horrific. The best way imo would be to blow up a few times, then use the lightning power to try and take him down when you're running low. If you want any chance of saving your girlfriend though, you basically have to keep a power icon (which means no being hit at all) in order to do enough damage. I beat the game, but my girlfriend got smooshed by a dropping ceiling of doom

that freaking impossible last boss, which becomes easy as hell once you figure out when there is a true opening?alienjesus wrote:Sonic 2
As a kid I thought the opening to attack was when he fired his hands, which meant I had to jump over the 2 hands coming and going AND jump high enough to hit him in the chest.
Needless to say when I saw how to beat him on the internet I was shocked at my stupidity.

I have beaten the lost levels, now that is hard. The original Super Mario Bros. is really really easy. You must be so embarrassed, and rightfully so.noiseredux wrote:for the life of me I cannot beat Super Mario Bros. All the others in the series are no problem for me to beat. Goddamn comic zone is hard. I rented a couple times when I was younger. Never could beat it. Need to track down a copy of it.
