saying that power-ups help isn't so much a "protip" as it as an "obvious statement."
But it's true! It's the easiest way to get through the level. And if you keep it through 8-4, you're all set.

I had trouble with world 8 when I was young. After I got my Mario All-Stars cart, I was able to save at world 8 and play it over and over and over again. Practice makes perfect, now I can beat the game.

understandably. BUT I'm playing the GBC port, so my gave is saved now on 8-3. And I have no power-ups. So I'm stuck. I'm probably better off just starting the whole game over.

another option is to speed run through a level you get stuck on - check out some videos and see where people go to avoid bullets, hammers, etc. Often those runs are sans-powerups.

Nice thread SpyCrab :P

Hm. At first I though of saying Super Mario Bros as well, but truth is I just haven't played the game enough and since I've beaten plenty of Megaman games and platformers in general, I think I'll be able to beat it on the all stars collection since it comes with a save feature.

No I think the game I really wasn't able to beat is The Revenge of Shinobi. I had one of those 6 games in 1 cart as a kid (well I had borrowed it from a friend for about a year) and Shinobi and Streets of Rage were my favorite games from that cartridge. I beat SoR but I had no luck with Shinobi. I think I once got to Spiderman, but lost.

Damn games with no save feature take so much time to beat. I want a save feature like the VC's. Save states to stop the game whenever you like but once it's loaded once it is deleted.

Well using warps you only need to beat about 3 levels before you get to world 8. Also i recall 8-1 having a warp pipe so that should help a bit.

8-2 i would say was the greatest challenge it has a very annoying beginning if you are not used to it but there is the chance of getting a extra live every time you try it so there is at least the chance to practice it.

8-3 without powerups is possible it just requires a whole lot of good timing and luck. However practicing to get there with the flower is the best way it also gives you the satisfaction of shooting these stupid hammerheads.

Also placing a hammerhead right before you get to bowser in 8-4 is just unfair :D

I don't use warp pipes in Super Mario. I always thought that the designers made so many wonderful levels for me why should I skip them?

F-Zero GX

No question. I love this game, I have almost all the cups beat on the hardest difficulty, but for the life of me I can not pass the Grad Prix in the story mode. No matter what I do, no matter how many times I try, I always finish in the middle of the pack. Its so sad because its one of my favourite games ever, and I haven't finished it...

Ninja Gaiden (NES)
Castlevania (NES) (any of them!)
Kid Icarus (NES)
Battletoads (NES) (I don't care if you don't want this game mentioned.... I cannot beat it!)
Fester's Quest (NES)

I never could beat Super Mario Bros. as a kid. It wasn't until I was a teenager that I finally beat it.
