Nes cart that plays gameboy games

Post by Chris Leach »

Did anyone here get a chance to purchase this cool looking item? I saw it posted on a website for sale, but then it was posted out of stock like the next day. I saved some money to purchase said item, but couldnt cause it is temporarily out of stock.

My question: Did anyone get one that is a member here?
My thoughts...maybe it didnt have all the bugs worked out, so it was pulled?

Does anyone here have any experience in making nes games? How difficult would this cart be to reproduce>?

I would really like to buy one...

I feel like your better bet is to get a Super Gameboy which is pretty cheap, and will play GB games on SNES. You're best bet is to get a gameboy player for a Gamecube because it can play all GameBoy, GB,GBC, and GBA on your TV. There's no way that this cartridge could play GBA games on an NES because the NES is 8 bit and the GBA ia 32 bit, so the NES hardware couldn't handle it. Might as well get one add on that does it all.

I agree, but the shear idea of taking apart your super gameby and using it to fitinside of a nes cart...its pretty cool

You are thinking about the Retrovision:

I do not know if they are making more. I imagine it is fairly complicated

Thought that was hilarious when I read that.

That might actually be plausible considering that the Retrovision is essentially an entire Game Boy on a cart. You'd have to figure out how to map the L and R buttons though.

I recall reading somewhere in the NES dev forums on parodius.com that it should be theoretically possible for a piece of more-advanced-than-NES-era hardware in NES cart form to effectively take over most of the processing from the NES CPU, and then stream low-color video output through the PPU as constantly updating background tiles. Of course, it would have to work within the NES PPU's native pallete.

That means GBA on NES could work, minus the L and R buttons, but it would look like crap.

Yes. The only thing the NES does is read the buttons and relays it to the GameBoy on the cart, and then it plays the sound and video through the NES. Thats why it's possible to have the Z80 code in the GB playing on the NES, becuase the NES isn't running the code technically.

It has no bugs, it's 100% functional and will probably never have any revision to it, it's more likely that stuffing a GB inside a NES cart takes a long time and he only makes these in batches of 20-or-so.

To make this cart, wouldn't be too hard if you know hardware and software, but if you were looking into making this yourself from scratch, you'll probably put a few dollars and MANY days of work into this. It's cheaper just to buy it off RetroUSB where bunnyboy has already done everything for you. Everything there is pretty much built with new parts, besides this I would guess, and is very very reliable.

I doubt anyone who bought one would sell it, and if they did, probably for only like $10 less then the real one with a year warranty. I'd but it from RetroUSB, as this i just like the PowerPak. Everyone who buys it loves it and nobody lets them go! :P

Good luck in your quest, though. :)
