I've been using it to play Japanese games on my NTSC-U Wii and noticed that Tatsunoko vs Capcom has the edges of the screen cut off. Very noticeable during the Extras Shop with the text below getting cut off.
I can re-position the screen in-game, but I can't shrink the viewing area. Even using my television options, such as "No Aspect" mode (changes 480p images from full-screen to a windowed screen), stuff is still getting cut-off in-game.
Is that a NTSC-J game issue, a Gecko issue, or my Wii?
I'm running off firmware 4.1U (or whatever came on Pikmin or Little King's Story). I can't go online with the Wii and must feed it updates on disc or from SD cards.
Anyone here use Gecko OS on their Wii?

Re: Anyone here use Gecko OS on their Wii?
Can't say I do. I use Priiloader to enable 100% region-free gaming on my Wii but you have to hack it to use it (same with GeckoOS IIRC). Never had any screen issues or anything of that nature. I did have to use the AnyRegionChanger to change my J-Wii's forcing it to English for a certain game but other than that, no other international problems.
Either way, by using Priiloader, you get region-free, block disc updates and much more.
But sorry, no GeckoOS knowledge.

Naw, the reason I chose Gecko OS over Priiloader was it didn't modify the NAND, which means I won't accidentally brick anything if the power cuts out or some such nonsense.D.D.D. wrote:Can't say I do. Don't suppose you have a copy of Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Cross Generatior to test with your Priiloader'd Wii? I was looking at some screencaps from here and noticing the cut-offs.

Yeah I too was worried about this so I really searched and searched and more to make sure when I did hack it, things would be as safe as possible.pakopako wrote:Naw, the reason I chose Gecko OS over Priiloader was it didn't modify the NAND, which means I won't accidentally brick anything if the power cuts out or some such nonsense.D.D.D. wrote:Can't say I do. If you do want to hack it, check this out. http://sites.google.com/site/completesg/
It's a really good step-by-step guide and unless you live in an area that is prone to black-outs or brown-outs, you should have no problem with it as long as you read and go slow (and not while tired - that's a killer mentally for me at least).
Yeah I do - I'm 99.99% I have the JP version as I don't have many US Wii games. I'll check when I get home and let you know.pakopako wrote:Don't suppose you have a copy of Tatsunoko vs Capcom: Cross Generatior to test with your Priiloader'd Wii? Re: Anyone here use Gecko OS on their Wii?
Yep it is the JP version of Tatsunoko VS Capcom and I have no issues seeing the text. Then again, it's not an import for this system (J-Wii, J-TvsC). The one thing that I did notice, probably a TV crap issue, is that the upper left and bottom right areas shave off a slight edge when in 4:3 mode. When my TV is in 16:9 mode, everything is there.
I am gonna borrow the TvsC US version and let you know.
Though on the link you posted, I didn't really notice anything cut off on the shop screen. My screen looks like everything is fine and I don't see any text cut off. What specifically were you talking about?

Re: Anyone here use Gecko OS on their Wii?
I have both the NTSC-U and NTSC-J releases and never had an issue with the screen getting cut off. I use cfgloader to boot all my games though, have not messed with Gecko OS/Disc loading in a long time.
Maybe you could try using another loader, Neogamma supports disc loading and so do most of the other major usb loaders. You might have more luck with one of those.
BTW installing priiloader is pretty much a safe process, especially if you have bootmii as boot2. If your really worried about a brick use a UPS to avoid power failure during installation of priiloader.

Yeah, I suppose the Wii I have must be out of warranty by now. And since I don't go online with it, on-disc updates shouldn't affect the NAND? And I might just be paranoid about TvC anyhow.
This screenshot is exactly what my Option menu looks like. You can see the red arrow in the lower left. However, under Display Adjust, I can move the screen (+14,+9) and (-10,-7) and see more white-space above and below and more background left and right.
This battle screen capture (black bar on the right excluded) from GameFAQs shows a full-sized battle screen; my view loses some space from the top and bottom (so much that "Press Start Button" doesn't fully show) and cuts the left and right sides up to the point of the super bar numeral.
I am curious if Priiloader users see the Fighters Generation.com screen (my current view) or the GameFAQs captured screen.
Edit
Just looked at Neo Gamma; apparently it's a mod of GeckoOS and has the same display issue.

Re: Anyone here use Gecko OS on their Wii?
I don't use NeoGamma but rather USB Loader GX and CFG USB Loader occasionally. I've never had any real trouble other than a setting issue which are resolvable quickly.
Have you tried those?

Re: Anyone here use Gecko OS on their Wii?
But wouldn't using LoaderGX or USBloader require downloading or modifying IOS and cIOS files, ripping the game off the disc, not to mention getting a USB drive? (Both have downloads to their a DOL files, but no icon/meta for an HBC channel. Doesn't this usually mean these are SD applications that may modify a NAND file?)

Re: Anyone here use Gecko OS on their Wii?
I initially only installed the HomeBrewChannel for emulators but then I hacked it further to allow full region-free gaming with Priiloader (damn Nintendo updates kept killing my FreeLoader discs).pakopako wrote:But wouldn't using LoaderGX or USBloader require downloading or modifying IOS and cIOS files, ripping the game off the disc, not to mention getting a USB drive? I then kept hearing people talking about how smooth the USB loaders were and I just installed that software too and again was real easy.
