Slow loading on original Xbox - please help

Post by Satoshi_Matrix »

I've noticed something strange about my original Xbox in the last few months.

Everything is working perfectly, but games loaded from the harddrive are taking much longer to load then they used to.

From the XBMC dashboard, I select a game or application such as CoinOps Reiginite and insead of several seconds, games load after a good two minutes or so. This might not sound like a big deal, but I'm used to load times like that from the Commodore, not the Xbox. What's going on? Anyone have any possible ideas of what's casing the problem and how to correct it?

I'm using a 1.6 hardmodded Xbox using XBMC 360 dashboard from last year some time, with a 250 GB harddrive.

you might need to clear the cache folder in the E drive and also clear the cache on drives X, Y and Z

Update to the latest XBMC or try UnleashX.

FTP F drive to PC then format F drive and FTP everything back to F drive
PSone, Xbox, PS2, DC, SS Mod Service, PM for details

Not familiar with the XBox, but is there a DEFRAG command in the boot menu? The continual removal and install of games and saves are bound to cause fragmented files. Would the drive get ruined if temporarily hooked up to the PC as a D drive or external for Defragging?

When I have an error install in the PS2, upon a reset, a long hard drive load takes place. Seems to be doing a Defrag. I know its the hard drive because the yellow access light flickers for a while before the HDAdvance Menu finally appears. This also occurs sometimes when renaming a file. Luckily saves can't be placed in the hard drive to cause fragmentation. Does the XBox seem to defrag upon reboot when an install error occurs?

I don't think you can do this because it has a different file system (xfat?).

Okay, so this begs several questions.

How do I clear the cache folder on each drive? Do I go into FTB and simply look for each folder named "cache" and delete the contents of each?

Where I can find the latest version of XBMC that I can actually download?

How do I format a partition? This sounds great in theory, but I didn't see any such option in XBMC.

Yes, use an FTP client such as FileZilla.

xbox scene wrote: If you google around for "XBMC Nightly Builds", you'll find a source of much more frequent compiles then T3CH. It doesn't include all the MPlayer codec files like T3CH's builds do, but you can copy those between builds no problem (they're in system\players\mplayer\codecs, to memory).
