marurun wrote:Mozgus, fun is purely subjective and I know you recognize that. While I appreciate, and often agree with, your point on working for fun, you are kinda over-generalizing. Different strokes for different folks. So no, I don't know that I'd classify DQ8 as a bad game just because it requires some leveling. And I would disagree with your assertion that MMOs, no matter how much I hate them, are definitively bad games.

I've noticed you are quite fond of asserting your opinions as facts and then getting huffy when others disagree.

And ott0bot, just because you disagree with someone's opinion doesn't give you the right to tell people to disregard someone else completely. Once again, opinion is not fact.
I wasn't saying to disreguard his opinion entirely, just that Dragon Quest 8 isn't a terrible game. Decent story, good battle system, nice stylized graphics...and yes, the leveling up is a bit boring, but at least i didn't recomend .dot Hack!!! Now that's some boring, bland gameplay.

Also on a side note, I was pretty much kidding, Mozgus. I think your comments are usually pretty funny.
I think it's just fine to diagree about the quality of a game.

And don't forget the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra performing the soundtrack in the game. All true points. But that's why I hate it so much. All this wasted potential. They covered all the grounds except for gameplay, the most important one.

I love Dragon Quest 8. I didn't mind the grinding at all and there's a lot of other stuff to do.

Grandia 2 didn't bother me at all, either. I barely noticed any graphical glitches, besides when walking in some towns there'd be some slowdown. But not enough to bother me, really.

In terms of bad RPGs on PS2, I can't really think of too many surprisingly. I've enjoyed most of them, even though FF X-2 was really disappointing. Then there's Unlimited SaGa which I have not played but I heard is really bad. I'll have to try it sometime, I keep buying it because it's so cheap but I always end up trading it in before playing.

Do yourself a favor sotu, and just read some articles online describing the gameplay, story, etc. of these games and then decide what sounds most appealing to you. Don't just pass on a game because someone tells you it sucks. That's what's wrong with gamers today. They go to a review site, look at the score and just decide right then and there whether or not they'll play the game even though they know NOTHING about it.

People all have very different tastes when it comes to rpgs. For example, I think FF8 was an excellent game even though it gets bashed a lot and I think Odin Sphere sucks even though it often gets praised. I also consider the critically acclaimed Shin Megami Tensei games a bit overrated, but those are opinions based on what I look for in my games.

No. If a game makes you work for the fun, then it's a bad game. Simple as that. If you think otherwise, then you need to reanalyze why you play these things.
I played DQVIII for over 100 hours, and it never felt like work, not even once. Yeah you have to level a bit, but it's a rewarding experience when you take down the bosses. The alchemy system is awesome as well and the game always had a great feeling of exploration. You honestly can't play any DQ game for 45 minutes and then make a judgement call, because you've barely scratched the surface.

And as for people not liking MMOs, tell that to the 6+ million WoW players. Grinding for loot can be a very addictive experience. You're out of your mind if you think what you said, but of course we already knew that about you.

Oh ok, I'll be sure to ask you whenever I need to know if I'm feeling the effects of either work or fun. I'm too dumb to tell the difference on my own.

I don't have to tell it to the WoW players because THEY tell it to ME! Don't you understand? Have you ever talked to these people? They hate the game. They always tell me it sucks, and they warn me to not get sucked in. It is literally a drug to them.

Great, here we go again. It's just like the Smash Bros topic all over.

Guess I'll just exercise "Option #2" and ignore you.
