very late to the party but here goes.

1) Earthworm Jim 2
2) Contra Hard Corps
4) Baku Baku Animal
5) Streets of Rage 2
6) Phantasy Star 4

Honorable mention goes to Shinobi III which has been fun during the few times I've played it. I really wanted to say Panzer Dragoon Orta, Outrun 2006 and Chu Chu Rocket but realized none of them were on Sega systems. Actually I think Chu Chu Rocket was on dreamcast but I've only played it on game boy advance. I think if I were to play all the Streets of Rage games today despite the music not being as good, I'd probably prefer the 3rd game simply because you could run with all the characters...it made the game feel more mobile but then again I enjoyed playing as Max much more than Zan.

5) Sonic the Hedgehog 2
6) Fantasy Zone
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

I have more fun with the SMS remake of the Genesis original. The original felt jerky to me, with lots of parts where the platforming fell apart. The SMS version was smooth and quick platforming - probably one of the most solid 8-bit titles I've ever played.

1. Shining Force
2. Sonic Adventure 2
3. Shining Force 2
4. Shining Force 3
5. Phantasy Star 2
6. Crazy Taxi

If you can't tell, Shining Force was what made me a Sega fan. I first played it when I was seven, and I still play one of the games through about once a year. However, I've just discovered Fire Emblem (on the Gamecube), it's my blessing since Shining Force was turned into action rpg games.

Not to mention that two of them aren't Sega games.

Edit: Whenever someones mistakes counting like this, I start laughing like an idiot, remembering that Monty Python bit in which the guy has to count to five: 1, 2... 5!

I'm not even gonna pretend like this list is right, It's just 6 games that immediately came to mind. I'd likely end up switching a lot of them around endlessly, there's too many to easily choose, and so many I still need to try.

In no particular order:
1. Wonder Boy 3: The Dragon's Trap (SMS)
2. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (MD)
3. Streets of Rage 2 (MD)
4. Jet Set Radio (DC)
5. Alex Kidd in Miracle World (SMS)
6. The Revenge of Shinobi (MD)
7 (because i just couldnt choose) NiGHTs into Dreams (SAT)

It's worth me pointing out that I've played far less sega published saturn and dreamcast games than I would like, so thats why they have less representation than many peoples lists. On the other hand, as I said before, theres too many to choose from, so this list is only representative of my thoughts right now. I mean, I'm tempted to add Ecco the Dolphin and Wonder Boy and Space Channel 5 as it is

Gunstar Heroes would've been up there, but I'm not sure if Sega actually own the rights to the whole series or not. Did they publish Gunstar Super/Future Heroes too?
