What if google doesn't have the answers and what if the one looking doesn't even know how to search for the problem. Which leads them here to ask us veteran retro gamers how to fix it and what is our reply "just fucking google it" and make sure to spell that correctly.

Breetai might have come off a little condescending, but he obviously wasn't trying to be a dick. He was trying to be helpful. Proper capitalization and punctuation IS appreciated! But I agree with the google.arion wrote:I can see why the op might have been ticked off Breetai did sound a bit condescending.

For real. You can't give positive, constructive criticism with out people getting all up in arms about it.swiftzx wrote:Calm down, he asked you politely and isn't enforcing it on you. Take your attitude problems elsewhere.
And I can't tell you how annoying it is to find those threads in a search. When I was first looking to burn .gcm (Gamecube) images, I've never seen that extension before so I didn't know what to do with it. Googling "how to burn" or "burning Gamecube images" turned up a BUNCH of thread asking, "How do I burn the .gcm?" But EVERY single thread was like "Noob, search for it." or something sarcastic like "you hold a lighter to it!" EVERY THREAD I found! How am I suppose to search for it when there's only 1 thread with the answer, and 15 threads telling me I have to search for it!?!?!lwcook wrote:Actually the Racketboy community seems to be one of the friendliest ones around for things like this. But I'm sure this thread will be nice if some one ever googles "Super Smash Bros cart not working." This thread will probably be first hit. Will be fun having to read through a bunch of BS, nothing to do with the issue. Not that I helped with that. So to get back on topic...
OK, that might be a problem. You don't want to use anything that is corrosive to metal or anything that will leave a residue. Goo Gone for SURE leaves a heavy residue which is hard to clean off. The reason why we use rubbing alcohol is because it doesn't leave a residue and it evaporates quickly, in addition to it's cleaning properties.ajsracket wrote:Oh yes, cleaned it several times. Tried rubbing alcohol, goo gone, and some kind of rust lime cleaner. Still nothing.Opa Opa wrote:Tried cleaning the cart yet?
Also, I don't think that the memory card ever interferes with any game.
Re: Nintendo 64 super smash brother not working
I just don't see why a duplicate post was created. An obvious same problem as the earlier 5200 cart problem also posted by the OP. All with the same answers, of cleaning the contacts of both cart and console.

I don't mind telling people. Its just confusing how people skip past stuff sometimes. Look at the trade forum when people don't read the rules.arion wrote:I can see why the op might have been ticked off Breetai did sound a bit condescending.

According to this all that puts us apart from the rest is that we don't use the term noob.lwcook wrote:Actually the Racketboy community seems to be one of the friendliest ones around for things like this. When other people (especially new members) fail to search and start new threads on old topics, don't scold them or make them feel unwelcome. The best way to
be helpful is by posting a link to a previous relevant thread.

Re: Nintendo 64 super smash brother not working
I almost always usually help someone. I get that question on how to clean cartridges on gamefaqs a lot. If you look through a few of my post, you will see I do just that.
But about the trade forum. Fourth sticky is rules. I really don't know why we don't have a allow or deny for people who just joined for the trade forums. For example, after 14 days the server automatically adds you to the allow list and you can make a thread on trade forum.

ajsracket wrote:"A simple search of this site, or even of Google, would easily bring up the exact same thing that everyone has already said here; clean your cartridge. You might want to consider opening up the cartridge and cleaning the ENTIRETY of the contacts.
Also, proper grammar, such as at least spelling the titles of games correctly and using capitals at the beginning of sentences, is appreciated."
I didn't realize a masters degree was required to post a question. Allow me to bow down and bask in the glory that is bretai...piss off with your holier than thow attitude douchebag. I have cleaned it, and I didn't rquire a google seach to figure it out. It simply didn't work. Super Smash Brothers that is, oops where is that spell check?????
I did not resort to name calling; only asked you to keep a decent standard in grammar/spelling (not perfection!). Is this how you usually treat people you disagree with?
This EXACT same question has come up multiple times lately. In fact, it was just on the last 10 threads made at the time you made your thread. Why didn't you bother to search for the answer before making another "my cartridge won't work, but I tried cleaning it a bit" thread? I did give you some advice anyway, as I recall. And yes, perhaps I should have just linked to a different thread, but oh well.
Here is a tip for you. The best way to clean a cartridge is to open it right up. If you don't already have one or know about it, you will need a 3.8mm gamebit to open up an N64 cartridge with. In fact, EVERY retro gamer should have at least a 3.8mm gamebit, 4.5mm gamebit and a triangular screw driver in their tool kit. If you do not have these tools, I HIGHLY suggest buying them.
Condescending I may be at times, and I do apologize for coming off that way, but I do not appreciate name calling. Why did you not express your feelings in a decent manner?

Re: Nintendo 64 super smash brother not working
Have you been on other forums? People here are a lot more friendly or helpful than they would be anywhere else. We don't have any nazi mods here and are pretty lax about rules. I've seen people respond helpfully to possible spammers bots to the point of naivety before.arion wrote:According to this all that puts us apart from the rest is that we don't use the term noob.lwcook wrote:Actually the Racketboy community seems to be one of the friendliest ones around for things like this. I mean, we DO tell people to use the search function first, but I hardly see a thread with a technically question go without any response. Nor does a moderator show up and say "search first. already answered 80 billion times!" and then lock the thread, stonewalling any help at all.
You're going to get people getting tired of seeing the same basic questions over and over again...it's just a part of human nature in general. But I have to disagree that we handle it in an unfriendly way here.
