What is the major difference btween Original and Slim
I have recently decided to buy a PS2 again, I am quite curious what are the difference between the original model and the slim model. The only thing I can think of the slim one that made me stay away from it is that Tomba is not compatible, so yeah, what are the major difference between these two models and which one do you recommend. I mean I have experienced both models but I never could tell the difference, they are all the same to me.

Get the fat for the internal Hard Drive bay. HDAdvance/HDLoader.

Off the top of my head, the Slim has the network port built-in, no Hard Drive Bay, and some Slims have an external Power Supply. From what I can tell. the Phats seem to be better built, too.
IIRC, the Slim can be modded to use a Hard Drive.CRTGAMER wrote:Get the fat for the internal Hard Drive bay. HDAdvance/HDLoader.

I don't think the mod I'm thinking of doesn't use USB. I'll see I I can find it again.CRTGAMER wrote:If you like the slooooow USB connection.GSZX1337 wrote:IIRC, the Slim can be modded to use a Hard Drive.

I think youre talking about the hdcombo.

Basically gives the slim the same hd abilities as the phat. As the other guy said also, dont even think of usbadvance as an option. Its compatibility is incredibly low and the games that do work stutter so much, its not even worth it. HDAdvance or nothing.

For the slim, the best hard drive you can do is to use Open PS2 Loader. I think playing the game via the network cable is the best approach. Still, the USB connection is not bad. Much better than USB Advance.
My preference is for a fat with FreeMcBoot/HDLoader.

FreeMCBoot is a memory card exploit that, once installed, you can run .elfs from the main ps2 screen in the beginning (where it usually says browser and system configuration).TheyCallMeTheSwede wrote:Sorry for asking, but what is this FreeMcBoot you speak of?gtmtnbiker wrote:For the slim, the best hard drive you can do is to use Open PS2 Loader. With FreeMcBoot, you can actually still use a fat or slim PS2 with a dead laser. I have one such system that I got for free off Freecycle. It just works and is *free*.
