I'm really getting to like the local new used game store

They rarely have an old game complete with the box and instructions, they focus almost entirely on loose carts, systems cables and peripherals, but they have tons of stuff available. The more modern stuff, XBoxes and PS2/3 and such, typically have boxes and instructions and they also sell used movies. They professionally resuface every CD or DVD based game or movie they sell so you KNOW it will work when you get it home. They will also resurface your discs for a very small fee.

However, every once in a while they come through big. Today I got a brand new in the box Virtua Stick for my Saturn, a stereo AV cable for my Genesis Nomad and two game manuals for a pair of loose Game Gear games I have for a measly $18.00.

Now if I could only get him to start looking for and selling complete older games.....

Man I want a store like that. I know of one in Lawrence, Kansas, and they do all the stuff you mentioned. Nice people work there too.

I have a local shop that just opened up, its a play n' trade, which might be a chain other places but the local owner of the store is a good guy and works shifts himself, couple of the other salespeople are very knowledgeable as well

this local one is the only place around I know that carries atari, NES, and up through modern consoles. I am glad gamestop and the other crappy national chains have a cut off date on older stuff... allows little places to get the good stuff :)

Best store that I visit is a regional chain called Vintage Stock. Mozgus, there might be one in your area. They are in Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Arkansas. There's two stores in my city, and the people who work there are generally pretty cool.

Play N Trade is a chain (well, franchises). Unfortunately our local copy doesn't carry anything older than PS2. The store I mentioned above is an independent in a booming huge rustic old downtown building so he has lots of room for LOTS of inventory. The owner is young, he just graduated from college, but he really knows his vintage stuff.

We USED to have a place like that in our area that was heavy into imports, hard to finds and older stuff. Great place for old game mags, anime and anything that the national chains didn't deem profitable.. It was called GameSpot. (not to be confused with GameStop) But the big national chains i just mentioned and EBGames pushed the guy out of business.

Gamecrazy used to be my favorite place for retro games, but sadly they stopped accepting trade-ins and sold off their retro stock... The only retro things they didn't carry was Saturn for some odd reason.

Here in California we had Hollywood Video that took in trades of all kinds.. then they stopped taking anything before the PS2 and sold off all their stock. I got a call for my buddy at 1:00pm on a Thursday saying "dude their selling everything cheap" ... i pulled a sick day and ran down there.. got 10 DC VMU's 4 still in box and got a bunch of NES carts I was wanting. It was a nice score but it sucks its over. Now I have only one place that carries anything vintage and its expensive. So I just stick to Thrift Stores and E-bay.

There's a store called Vidiots. I actually have a bit of a problem with them. They buy games and sell them but when you sell them your games they pay half what they sell them for. One thing they do have that I'm considering buying is a Vectrex. Unfortunately they don't have any games for it. I did manage to get a Dreamcast 4x memory card there, though. Their prices are okay but sometimes I can get better prices on eBay, and they don't sell special controllers. They're okay though.

All resurfacing is usually enough to make me not go. I can understand if the game isnt working to do it, but Ive seen enough working games get "fixed" with the resurfacing devices in my time. Windows disc especially like the devices...
