My understanding from a review is that they added the ability to tilt the wiimote left and right to speed up and slow down. If you've played the original cloudmaster (or any left to right space shooter) you know that 99.9% of the challenge comes from the fact that you keep moving at a set speed and have to deal with obstacles as they come. Being able to wiz past them or slow down to delay them takes pretty much all the challenge out of it.
The original cloudmaster is a pretty hard game (I think). They might have made this game easier in ways other than the speed control as well. Not sure but it wouldn't surprise me.

I think the monkey king thing is a japanese fairy tale that has been adapted into a bunch of cartoons/movies/books. I remember watching a show in the mid 90s that had the same jist. And I remember a character from the Sonic Archie comics series who was really similar too.

and SonSon from Marvel vs Capcom 2, and the entire "Saiyuki" anime/manga series (though I've never watched it), and I wouldn't be suprised if Alex Kidd was based a bit on that legend as well.
