Question about Gamestop return service
Re: Question about Gamestop return service
Let me know when the gamecubes hit the compactor...I'll grab one of every color before that switch is turned on haha
Re: Question about Gamestop return service
Well with a new console like that they probably send it back to the manufacturer for credit. I doubt Gamestop would be stuck with it. The manufacturer would either refurbish it or trash it. But if it never worked properly to begin with I feel like it should be trashed.

I cant tell if thats what they would now with newer consoles?
I mean that there are old playstations and N64s everywhere, but to destroy them like that, theres plenty of poor children that could have done with one of those consoles.
so it may be possible that consoles may be discarded like that in the future!
Thats my point!!! We used to this at sam goody and I was wondering if anybody that works at gamestop can tell me what they do with those consoles. The console that I took back I doubt that they can fix it. That console must have had the dvd drive switched or something. And if they send it to destroy I think you can talk with the manager or something so you can take it and do something with it parts, trying to fix it, etc.
Everything gets sent to other stores when it's older consoles and games, not thrown away. They sold everything from Atari to PS1/N64 at GS until 2009. They weren't taking any of it in on trade anymore, but old inventory was an easy way to make a buck with collectors. You can even see stores with original Xbox games still if you're in a high traffic area, and it's the same situation as before with the older stuff.
Broken machines get sent off and repaired, then shipped to stores that are low on stock and need more hardware. Employees get nothing, period. Taking anything like that is stealing and grounds for a firing, fine, and arrest.
And trust me they'll do all three.
Also, see first post and please don't make said mistake again.

Re: Question about Gamestop return service
Ok, I worked at gamestop for the past 3 years up until a month ago. Let me tell you, that place SUCKS and i LOVE video games.
Back on topic. When someone buys a refurbished or a new console, within 30 days (or a year if you buy the warranty) nd you hold onto the receipt, you can get a return for the same item or your money back. What they do with the console itself is send them to gamestop's own refurbishing warehouse (probably a lot like microsoft's or sony's repair centers) and then send them back out to gamestops. In your situation, it sounded like you had a faulty dvd drive, so they would just switch em out and be done. The real problem lies in the red rings of death. I told customers the entire time I worked there that BUYING A REFURBISHED XBOX 360 CONSOLE IS NOT A SMART PURCHASE. Almost 100% of the time, when someone would buy a refurbished system they would be returned within the day/week. Buying used or (preferably) new is a much better idea, simply because they have not broken before and the used only cost about $10 more, the new only being about $40-50 more, usually with a game or two you can trade back in to take a little more off the price. Since you have already bought one, theres really nothing you can do at this point aside from try to return it and hope the gamestop employee is in a good mood since returns for money back are only within that first week.
Short answer: They refurb them, then sell them and they NEVER just toss out consoles unless its at the refurbishing warehouse itself and have deemed it un-fixable. The only things they field destroy are old pc games, walkthrough guides and peripherals.

What gamestop sold atari/ps1/n64 games until last year? As far as any store in california works, they havent sold that stuff since like 2004-2005 and I have NEVER seen atari games since the 90's. Now, Im sure somewhere, there are warehouses full of this stuff because, when the company stops selling a consoles games, they dont just destroy them but send them back to the warehouse but i always wondered if they just gave it to the warehouse workers as a bonus or sold it online, like on amazon stores and whatnot. Oh, and as for xbox games, as far as California is concerned, they stopped selling them about 3 months ago, even in high volume stores. I worked at a high volume store and they finally got rid of them about 3 months ago and good riddance. All that was left were about 90 copies of nfl2k3.

through some shady deals I have picked up some of these guides! Back then I knew some workers at gamestop and Ive gotten some free guides.
I've also seen them throw away old posters and promo signs. some would look good on my wall

but I havent done this in years, workers change and sometimes other things happen.
but it still sucks that gamestop destroys their useless products.

They were all in a box in the back rooms of most stores by then.
You had to hunt the particular title down in the system and then call the store that had it to see if you could get it transferred in.

If you ask them to hold the signs or posters (and they havent already called them for themselves), you leave your name and number or check in regularly, you can usually snag that swag.

You name dropped an active employee of said company (who we all know, but shall remain nameless as these things aren't supposed to be thrown around in the headlines) while asking how to get free consoles and other property that doesn't belong to you or them. I edited it out of your OP, just try to be a little more subtle on issues like this when mentioning people in the future.
People can get seriously screwed over like that without having even done anything at all, it's not cool to do that.
If you're asking a general knowledge question people will try to answer it as best as they can, but anything that's back room talk is sensitive info and grounds for consequences if said in the wrong context.
