gamestop

Post by mason »

I was wondering do all gamestops offer the same prices for games/systems?
I was told that by an employee and seems logical.

The reason I ask is I started a business buying video games/systems for more than gamestop. So what I do is call up gamestop, get their prices and then offer people higher prices. But I figured out why businesses are greedy, because "customers" are just as greedy. I've had so many people lie to me. Telling me this or this is selling at gamestop for 10 or 20 dollars less, when it's not. Or that they buy it for twice the price that they do! No wonder.

I know what you mean. I was buying and selling over facebook. I got half-a-dozen messages about how a ps2 was only worth $20. Then I found out that one of them was thinking of trade-in value. They still sell the ps2 for $80 at gamestop. So yes. People lie - they want a good deal, just like you want to make a great profit.

That being said, charging more than gamestop isn't all that great of an idea. You don't have the credibility of gamestop, nor would I think your warranty be nearly as solid. I'm not trying to put you down, I'm just saying that it seems selling higher would hinder business. I like to buy ps2's as cheap as possible, usually with accessories and games included for around $40 and then sell the unit, cables and one controller for $60. That's what a local person was buying slimlines for, so I sell the fat model for that much. It's one of the better deals in my area and hardly anyone could argue with it.

Wow. I totally misinterpereted that. Sorry.

Especially with games, you could give people more for their stuff than a chain like that. When they're not intending on being able to sell 8million copies of nfl 2k2, they only give people $.75 for it. Meanwhile, if you're only housing 1 copy of a game, you can give a better price or decided not to take it altogether.

yeah thats my whole idea, and I sell through ebay. so crediabality isn't a problem. If I scam them, they'll get their money through ebay. which i won't, however people are still cheap. For every system i offer twice what gamestop offers. So far it's about 50/50. Some people are to stubborn and still don't want to sell it. even thou overall I offer 30 percent more than gamestop.
and just to verify, every gamestop buys games/systems for the same price right?

(and I also I don't care about making a tremendous profit, I care about moving numbers. walmart is the richest/largest company in the world but they have the lowest profit margins. think about it)

Not a bad I idea if you willing to do the legwork. And yes, I'm pretty sure Gamestop has standardized prices. I can't think of why they wouldn't....

all gamestops have standardized prices. Most are checkable on the website, but that's not the complete listing. Also, some stickers might not get updated, so if you're looking at a copy of something in your hand, it might have had a price drop since it was stickered, but that would be a pretty rare occurance. They're usually pretty good about that sort of thing, at least around here.

When I worked at Babbages/EB/Gamestop way back in the day(I went through the sell/buy out) I was told there where different level stores with different prices depending upon the area. For instance, if we where the only dog in town, we had the highest prices but if we had a BB or some mom and pop stores that beat our level 3 store prices, we would be dropped to 2 or 1. The price differences wouldn't be for systems but games and 3rd party add-ons, prices would be $5-10 cheaper.

It could be a bunch of bull from one of my managers, they did like to cut up.

makes sense, but I am sure now it is standardized. as the employee told me that and it is of course logical. damn cheapos! well ill let u know how my idea goes. I just need a better way to advertise it.
People come to me thinking they'll get some huge cash buy-out and I do offer them quite a bit more like i said. more money is better right and no worry of broken money.
