Final Fantasy XIV Online for PC Quick Review

Well everyone, I finally got a good video card, so I was finally able to play FF 14 with little trouble. In a world full of MMOs, where does this one stand? Read on.

Gameplay: While this game IS an MMORPG, it's more like a mix of two different games. The games I refer to are Legend of Zelda 3, and Final Fantasy 2J. How so? Well, instead of just sitting there watching your character hack away at an enemy, you press the hotkey your attack button is assigned to, in my case, the number 1 key. You have a gauge that shows you how much you can attack. For example, if the gauge showed bars, it would show 4. The "Light Slash" attack takes one bar. After you attack, the bar will start to recharge, and it does it fast enough that you can keep on fighting without much trouble. As for leveling up, there is none. It's like Final Fantasy 2J, as I mentioned earlier, in that whatever type of weapon you use, your skills with it get better. The Job System is also different. Instead of picking a Job and sticking to it, your equipment determines what you are, so you can switch on the fly.

Graphics: The graphics are absolutely beautiful in this game. While I was playing, I felt like I was actually immersed in the game's world. This is good, but it's also bad, in that you need a REAL good system to display them without everything being blurry.

A Track From The Game (Alpha Version)

Music: Those who have read my review of Final Fantasy XI Online at Gamespot know that I didn't like it's music at all. That changed with this game. The music fits every situation you could possibly find yourself in, and it has lots of variety.

Overall: This game is great, but it is by no means perfect...at least not yet. I swear, I do not understand why it gets so much hate. As it stands, this game has LOADS of potential, and I believe that Square Enix will make it rise to being an even better game than it is now. Now, remember, this is just MY opinion. Yours may differ greatly, or it may be similar, I don't know. Everyone is different.

Pros:
Great Gameplay
Beautiful Graphics
Great Music
GREAT Character Customization
Some Nice Features

Cons:
Requires a pretty high-end PC, which can be pricey
Feels unfinished sometimes
Not enough quests to do...yet
Game's Instruction Manual is pretty useless

My Score: 7.5/10

7.5 is pretty optimistic for the game dont you think?

I did Alpha and closed beta, skipped open beta because I wasn't happy with how the game was developing. Heard I didn't miss out on much. (I LOVED Alpha by the way, it went downhill with the start of closed beta) They needed another 4 months of development to iron things out and do an auction system but instead they rushed it to beat Cataclysm for the Western Market. Many of us FFXI vets were upset with the release quality. I don't play FFXI anymore but I can confirm I'll skip 14. 5/10 should be it, They know it is a 5/10 too that is why it is brand new and $20 dollars off the sticker on shelves (They arn't charging for online play yet too I hear?).

Not trying to be a troll or flame or anything but you need to be honest and admit this :)

I will admit nothing. I'm sorry, but this is my opinion, and I'm sticking to it.

I'll wait for the PS3 version, too bad it's delayed....but at least it's for the better. Thanks for the review.

It's delayed due to the lack of memory on the PS3.. It should actually get a better initial reaction though, since the interface was designed for a controller and that's where most of the problems existed..

I thought the game was delayed because it sucked and everyone complained.
