Convention worthy Saturn and Dreamcast titles?

Post by fastbilly1 »

As many of you know I help host an anime/gaming/comicbook/etc convention in the spring. At said convention we have a retro gaming room where, as you can guess, we have oldschool gaming. Atari 2600 to Gamecube (I dont dare leave my pong machines in public hands). Well this year I am bringing six or seven Dreamcast and three or four Saturns, and need help on game selection. Odds are there will be two Saturns and two Dreamcast hooked up at any given time (the others incase something happens), if that factors into your decisions. Also I should mention that we are family friendly - PG13 is ok but no skin, and there will be another Dreamcast there just for fighting games - namely MvC 1&2, Capcom vs SNK, and Soul Calibur.

The games I already have lined up are:
Dreamcast:
Chu Chu Rocket
Tech Romancer
Dynamite Deka 2/Dynamite Cop
Ikaruga
Karous
NFL Blitz 2000
Propeller Arena - This is a maybe, depends on a couple factors.
San Fransisco Rush 2049
Jojos Bizarre Adventure - Suggested but I have never played it, someone else will supply it.
Gunbird 2
Rez

Saturn:
Saturn Bomberman - 10 player
Dynamite Deka/Die Hard Arcade
Radiant Silvergun - again
Parodius Collection
Gunbird
In to the Hunt
Waku Waku 7
NiGHTS/Christmas NiGHTS
Baku Baku
Guardian Heroes - but I am not so sure about this one.
Virtua Cop 1&2 - however the guns may not be ok with the campus cops.

There have been more suggestions I just cannot think of them right now. But what I am hoping for is the vast brilliance of the forums may be able to help me here.

Get rid of Karous, it's a bad example of DC shmup get Radilgy. Also cosmic smash would be cool. How long have you been doing this convention? I'll tell some friends to go but I'm pissed I don't live in Atlanta anymore.

I agree with dudex77, there are many shooters better and more fun than Karous...like Mars Matrix. I'm assuming you have a JP DC or a DC-X (because Ikaruga is on the list already), so some import games that would be fun are: Zero Gunner 2, Gunspike, Shikigami no Shiro 2 and Guilty Gear X (easily one of the best fighting games).

Some other fun DC games are: Powerstone 2 (as Racketboy posted), Zombie Revenge, The Typing of the Dead (awesome especially if you have 2 keyboards), Space Channel 5.

On the Saturn, Marvel vs. Street Fighter and Virtua Fighter 2 are great translations from the arcade, Battle Garegga and Soukyougurentai are classic shooters and Panzer Dragoon 1 and 2 are fun but maybe a little slow-paced for a convention.

Good luck!

Good ideas Racket, I knew I missed some obvious ones. Now the question is can I find two fishing rods for Virtua Tennis?

Dudex, Karous is there since I own a copy and I like the concept of a room of shumps. But I will grab a cop of Radilgy, thanks. Cosmic Smash and I dont get along, Ive never had a copy that worked on my machine, but I will take one none the less, this means I should probably play the game atleast once. The convention is in its fourth year. It is called Momocon, there is a topic about it in the free stuff forum. I am trying to get Durkada to bring some of his arcade cabs, along with the other local people I know who own some.

doctorfugue, Mars Matrix is in the queue now. I have both a Japanese Dreamcast and a DC-X so I will grab Zero Gunner and Shikigami no Shiro 2 - Zero Gunner a friend has, I own Shikigami just forgot to put it on the list. Gunspike Ive never heard of, Ill look into it, thank you. Guilty Gear will already be on the other fighting game Dreamcast, unless I can obtain a sizable 4:3 tv with a VGA input. However Typing of the Dead is nixed, they did not like House of the Dead 2 last year, that and I only own one keyboard (it was just a step over the line for the con). The other two I will look into aswell.

As for your Saturn suggestions, I must be crazy since I own all of those and just washed over them in my mind. Along with Fighting Vipers...hmm you got me thinking good sir.

I have talked it over with the boss lady and she may let Typing of the Dead slide. I will push her alittle more and buy another keyboard in hopes to sweeten it.

Foolishly I did not realize that Cannonspike and Gunspike were the same title, I will through that one into the queue as well, thanks.

Samba De Amigo leads to one problem Caboose, I do not have Maracas. And it will cost me atleast $100 a pair to get them off ebay. Unless I can find a cheaper way to do this, Samba De Amigo will be on hold until the wii version. I have to ask though, can the Maracas, both first and third party, stand up to a beating?

Thanks alot for the ideas already fellas, if yall can think of more, I am open for ideas..

Update -
Ive found some third party maracas, the ChaCha Amigo (EMS's Red ones) controllers, for sale at a price I am willing to pay for two sets. However I am always skeptical of 3rd party stuff. So if anyone has used them before can you weigh in on the issue for me?
