First PS3 .. not really impressed

Finally decided to get a PS3. I bought the first Ratchet and Clank (tools) as i have wanted to play it forever. It looks kinda bad on my 1080p TV. Almost like a PS2 game (its running in 720p). Is this Just because its an older game or does the PS3 just suck on 1080p TVs?

Have you compared it to the PS2 games directly? It's substantially better looking.

Do you have a 360? The two systems look very similar, overall.

I assume you are using an HDMI cable, and not the stock one that was included?

Yes i have played 480p PS2 games on this TV VIA component. Yes i have a 360 .. looks great .. like a "next gen system" should. Yes i am using an HDMI cable and not composite

The difference between Ratchet PS2 and Ratchet PS3 is like night and day. Personally I think it still looks great in places, for an early PS3 title.

That being said, there are tons of better looking games available - go download an Uncharted 2 or Killzone 2 demo or something.

Uncharted, Killzone, Heavy Rain, God of War 3, etc. Try those out.

Trust me I'm new to hd tv and 720p is probably best to have setup. Look behind ps3 box for 480p 720 p 1080. I tried Super street fighter 4 at 1080 its looks bad, best at 720p to be safe.

Some games are only made to support up to 720p, anything else is upscaling.

It'll say on the back of the box what resolution it supports natively.

Yea.. thats what i love about the 360 scaler. Looks good no mater what you do. For the ps3 i have everything checked and let it decide. I cant dl any demos as it wants me to update to join the network. Haven't decided if i want to "jailbreak" it yet.
