What games do you regret never finishing?
Normally I'd bring up The Longest Journey, but I finally reloaded that last year and got that off my conscience. I never finished it because my old monitor was dying and the 640x480 resolution the game played began to drive that monitor nuts--and me right alongside the monitor. I ended up shelving the game until I got a new monitor but by then I had moved on to other things. I finally came around to it, restarted, and played to completion. And it was good.
For the most part I finish games I start. I am a game finisher. The hardest thing for me is actually starting games, but that's another topic. There are only a handful of games that come to my mind that I never finished that still haunt me:
Punch-Out!! One of my biggest gaming regrets is not beating Punch-Out!! in the NES days. Sandman had my number every time. Sure I've had a friend beat him for me on occasion so I could fight the latter boxers, but I still haven't beaten Sandman by myself. I know I could with save states these days, but I think the moment has passed and any victory now would probably just feel hollow.
Starfox for SNES. Now I beat Starfox many times, but I never beat the hard course. I got to the very last boss a few times, but always came up just short.
Lunar SSSC. I almost beat this in one weekend rental. I got to the last place and my time was up. I took it back and figured I'd re-rent it the next weekend to finish it off, but it wasn't there. And never was there again. So I never finished it. Probably never will since JRPGs seem to annoy the piss out of me these days. I remember picking up Alundra instead--and life was good again.
I can also think of two games where I got to the last boss or mission, played it once, promptly died, and never played it again: Mega Man Legends 2 and C&C Tiberian Sun. I'm usually all about finishing games and so it was always strange to me that I'd just turn the game off at that point and just say the hell with it, but that's basically what happened. I don't really regret not beating those though, a benefit of that detachment.

A couple of western RPGs
The first Realms of Arkania game, Blade of Destiny - I made a mistake early on on being polite instead of threatening a guy, and missed on a map piece. Only realized that much later, and I don't know if that was going to screw me in finding the sword (perhaps not, hopefully not otherwise the game is flawed) but I sort of lost steam because of that and stopped playing it with some serious time already invested.
Baldur's Gate, when I actually got to the main city (Baldur, I think) I somehow lost interest. The combat was getting somewhat repetitive, I guess (which is a poor excuse considering some eastern RPGs I did finish
).
Ivo.

Haha I regret not finishing Grandia II as well... I always avoided every fight possible in the game so I ended up being way too low level for most bosses (I remember being stuck for almost a day trying to beat Melfice) But I managed to beat it all the way till the final boss but it was just way too hard no matter how hard I tried... So I eventually just gave up xDmarurun wrote:Almost any recent RPG. I regret, particularly, not finishing Skies of Arcadia or Grandia II.
Chrono Cross - A few years ago I played it for like 15+ hours before I got side tracked. Tried to start again last year or so and again got sidetracked with other games and could not be bothered to carry on with it.
FF Tactics - Had this at the same time as Chrono Cross. Sunk like 35+ hours into it before I took a break from it. Just didn't get back into the game again. Hoping to fix this by eventually playing the PSP remake.
FF7 - I have completed this before but wanted to replay the game. Twice I tried and twice I played it for like 10 hours and gave up.
From now on I try to stick to one game at a time only.... and maybe a hand-held game as well.

Stranger's Wrath, I was really enjoying that game and then the game glitched and completely prevented progress. Checked every faq under the sun and all of them say that something is supposed to happen and it just never did. I was halfway through the game, and i just never went back to it.
I never got round to completing Shenmue 2 either. Did the first game, but my mint copy of Shenmue 2 has been criminally underplayed.
I have yet to complete a resi game. I don't know what it is but I just completely suck at the games and I refuse to use FAQs (only when I suspect something has broken, or i'm completely and utterly stumped). However i've been making headways into Resi 4 wii edition thanks to the guidance of my mate with little tips on best way to deal with situations etc. Plus the fact that aiming is so much easier in the wii edition helps tremendously.
