Book of Eli - it needed alittle more action but was a great flick. Had a very Madmax vibe going with it.

Punisher: War Zone
Not really a sequel to the Thomas Jane version from a few years back, but also not an origin story. Surprisingly, this one's a lot more ridiculous, though I cannot comment on whether or not this version is closer to the source material.
Pros- I think that Fist of the North Star (not the live-action one) is the only movie I've ever seen to feature more head explosions. I could be wrong on that, though. There's one great scene where three villains are going along having fun doing some Parkour-like stuff across the rooftops after murdering a guy and stealing (theft-ing?) something. Without warning, one of them blows into tiny chunks.
A decent bit of non-head-exploding gore as well.
Cons- It just wasn't that great a movie. The acting was not very good. The writing was not very good. The villains were more silly than intimidating, though I guess that really did fit the tone of the film.
Overall, it was good enough for a dumb, cheap action film. It wasn't a life-changing experience, but I don't feel like it was a waste of my time.
Chances Are
Late-eighties silly semi-romantic comedy starring Robert Downey Jr. Other than his relatively small role in Weird Science, I had never seen a Robert Downey Jr. film older than the excellent Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang. He definitely wasn't a good an actor back then as he is now, but was still very funny and charming. I wouldn't go out of my way to see this one, as it's pretty dated, and the first ten or fifteen minutes are all just setting up the scenario and aren't funny at all, though, granted, they weren't trying to be funny during the early scenes. If you want to see RDJ play the young, reincarnated version of Cybil Shepherd's head husband with some other bizarre Oedipal stuff thrown in, check it out. I actually did laugh out loud a few times. This one's really only worth watching if you're curious about seeing Robert Downey Jr. during his drug-fueled days.

It depends on taste. I love movies like The Expendables, Bloodsport, War Zone, Out for Justice, etc., because they're so absurdly violent and ridiculous that all you can do is laugh at them. That said, if I made a starters guide to Seagal movies it would go:
Out for Justice: Way over the top, and a good place to start. Steven's NY accent is so funny in this one, and the http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMu2xNBpyQc just adds to the fun factor.
Above the Law: Lots of scenes of Seagal running around like a chicken, very funny.
Hard To Kill: This movie might as well be the definition of early 90's action movies. Hot chick with an accent, ford mustangs, and lots of karate.
I'd start with these three. Under Siege is just bad, but does have some boobs in it.

I don't need it to be like the Hulk 'reboot' but 20 minutes sounds ok. In the original spiderman he didn't get into the official suit until a good hour into the movie. Not too much origin in it, but it is a reboot, so expect a good twenty minutes of it as it doesn't just happen in the opening credits.

I am on uni break while my gf still has 2 weeks left so I have just finished watching A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back, it makes me wish I still had my VHS tapes my brother took when he moved out.
I think man they have rooted these movies up, and yet these 3D versions coming will utterly rape them.

Fight, Zatoichi, Fight (the eighth film in the series) 8/10
Another fantastic entry in the series. Zatoichi does his own sort of Lone Wolf and Cub thing for this one.
Punisher War Zone: One of the worst depictions of Frank Castle in a long time. The violence in that movie is all it has going for it. The Dolf Lundgren version is better, hes a better actor than most of the people in War Zone at least.
Another fantastic entry in the series. Zatoichi does his own sort of Lone Wolf and Cub thing for this one.
